Job Title: Children’s Work Co-ordinator

Reporting to: General Manager

Responsible for: Sessional children’s workers and volunteers

Location: Willoughby Street, Lenton, NG7 1RQ

Hours: 16 hours/week initially for a fixed six month term

Holidays: 32 hours ie. equivalent to two working weeks

Pay: £10/hour (net)

Job Purpose

You will develop and deliver children’s work programmes, initially providing for 7-11 year olds in the locality of Lenton.

You will provide direct line management and mentoring for child support sessional workers and volunteers to ensure young people receive high quality opportunities, activities and nurture.

Context for the post:

The Lenton Centre (TLC) is a not for profit charitable organisation providing a community hubservice in the heart of Lenton, Nottingham.TLC seeks to offer a range of health, educational, employment and well-being facilities and activities for all parts of our community, thereby increasing community cohesion.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for conducting a needs analysis in the local area, engaging with schools, community groups, service providers and potential service users. You will deliver a report to summarise the needs and to recommend the most appropriate and effective provision for young people at TLC.
  • You will plan and deliver a high quality programmethat is safe, innovative, challenging and responsive to the needs and interests of the children, including activities that might use our facilities and/or involve the Arts, games and practical skills.
  • You will ensure that the diverse needs of children, who might be disadvantaged, are targeted through effective programme planning. You will promote cultural cohesion and inclusion.
  • You will be the responsible manager and the lead worker in most sessions.
  • You will work closely with TLC management in the recruiting and mentoring of sessional children’s workers and volunteers.
  • You will be expected to manage the performance of the team. You will ensure the young people receive safe and excellent provision that is carried out in a well planned and co-ordinatedway.
  • You will encourage the active participation of children and ensure that their ideas contribute fully in the planning, delivery and evaluation of sessions.
  • You will have responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people at all times.
  • You will monitor, record and evaluate sessions and provide reports and information as required by grant providers and TLC management.
  • You will follow TLC policies and procedures and contribute to the improvement of the policies and procedures relating to the provision for children and young people.
  • You will work with TLC management team contributing to grant applications for future funding.

Additional Information

  • The hours of work will be flexible in line with the needs of the programme. This will involve working unsocial hours in early evenings.
  • The position requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Person Specification

Desirable / Essential
Qualifications:
A JNC recognised youth work qualification to level 3 or equivalent / 
Valid first aid qualification / 
Clean Driving Licence / 
MIDAS certificate / 
Recognised qualification in counselling or other therapeutic work with young people / 
Knowledge & understanding :
Awareness of Nottingham City’s Family Support Strategy and the CAF process / 
Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety, diversity awareness and safeguarding best practice relating to young people and staff / 
National and local initiatives which influence provision for young people e.g. Every Child Matters / 
Issues affecting children & young people in Lenton / 
Delivery of children’s work within an equal opportunities framework / 
Experience :
At least 3 yearsdesigning, developing and delivering quality services for ages 7-12 yrs / 
Assessingindividual needs of children and developing appropriate support packages / 
Leading activities with culturally diverse groups of children / 
Working towards and achieving outcomes with children / 
