Stop and Smell the Paper
Please choose at least five (5) of the following revision tasks which are relevant to your paper, and revise. Highlight the errors in your original paper and handwrite the corrections on a separate sheet of paper. Attach the revisions to your essay and resubmit. Thanks.
1) Do you have any What? or What kind of? OR Vg. Try to be more precise.
2) Are you missing a claim of thesis? Write a precise one now.
3) Do you have a shorten up or tighten up- or say analysis immediately or Say what it is? Try it out.
4) Do you repeat the same word? Try some new ones now.
5) Do you have any WWs? or Diction comments? Do you use “You” or “things”? Change it. See if you can find the proper or a more precise word.
6) Did you make grammatical errors, including run-ons, s and v disagree and passive voice? Fix them.
7) Do you have any AVOID, or Never use … or NO. See if you can rewrite the sentence or even the paragraph omitting that word or phrase.
8) Do you have any “Why so?”OR “How so…” Try to explain giving the proper showing--not telling.
9) Do you have any Play it ups? Or Slow down and develops? Try your hand at developing this great idea.
10) Are you missing connective tissue or weaving? Rewrite a couple of sentences so that they connect with the thesis.
11) Do you claim a technique does something, but you need to show it? Do you have show- don’t tell? Try your hand at showing it now.
12) Are any of your sentences wordy or awkward or reread? Try to reword them.
13) If you ended abruptly or not at all, find some closure now without regurgitating the prompt or thesis.
14) MLA formatting, including parentheticals and works cited. Do it properly, please.
15) Awkward embedding quotes? Setting context? Using only part of the quote gracefully. Try your hand at this now.
