Game of the Week –Hurricanes (Women’s Team) over Vienna Dream (50-34)

An historic basketball game was played last week at Freedom ES, forthe "battleof thesexes" between the mighty Women's Hurricanes, 19+and the undefeated Vienna Dream, 7-8 grade division. The Hurricanes took an early lead with excellent passing and teamwork! They were patient on offense as they always looked to make the extra pass. Stephanie Pictroski and Jess Johnson rained jumpers on the boys. Vienna Dream got rid of their pre-game jitters and started to make a strong comeback in the second half by controlling the boards. The women Hurricanes held their own and put the game out of reach led by a "hot" Lauren Arthur. If you’re a purist of the game, as I am, you missed a great game! Both teams are known for their unselfish play, and outstanding execution. The smaller court favored the Hurricanes as they only had 5 players in uniform. Vienna Dream had a full squad and substituted freely.

Congratulations to both teams as they demonstrated superb sportsmanship. However, the women prevailed and have bragging rights!

Write-up courtesy Mitch Kalman, head referee for the game.

20Special Guest Jess Johnson added 20 for the Hurricanes.

Legend of the Week –Brock Picardi (Vienna Dream)

Even though it was a losing cause, Brock was on fire, and almost singlehandedly brought them back in a thrilling offensive show in the third quarter! He finished with a game-high 20, and put on some moves that wowed the crowd!

Brock flies!
