I.PARENTS AS PARTNERS

·  Parents are invited to help plan, design and become active in the school

·  Parents are encouraged to visit their child’s class.

·  Parents are encouraged to volunteer their time.

·  Conferences may be scheduled during non-instructional time if requested by parents.

·  Any question or concerns will receive a timely response and/or support through our Parent Suggestion Box.

·  School provides materials and trainings to help parents to work with their children with monthly “Workshop Wednesdays” and “Parent Engagement Nights”.

·  Trainings and meetings will be offered at flexible times.

II.PARENTS AND STUDENTS AS PARTNERS

·  Parents should discuss daily learning with students.

·  Parents should be aware of the skills being taught in the classroom

·  Students should read with an adult for 30 minutes every night.

·  Parents will become aware of student activities related to transition into PreK, K, and middle school.

III.PARENTS AND COMMUNITY AS PARTNERS

·  Our PENCIL Partners, community organizations and businesses will assist in providing enriched experiences / workshops for parent involvement to improve student achievement and strengthen parent involvement.

IV.PARENTS’ EVALUATION OF TITLE 1 PARENT NVOLVEMENT

·  In the spring, an evaluation form will be sent home to allow parents the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of Norman Binkley.

·  The School Improvement Plan (SIP) involves parents and other stakeholders in its development and implementation. It is available for all to review.

V.PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY AND COMPACT

·  Parents will be actively involved in a meeting each year to jointly edit and review the school compact and policy and SIP which will be written in an understandable, uniform format in a language parents can understand. The plan will be updated periodically.

·  Reference to the Compact will also be addressed during parent/teacher conferences held at flexible times.

·  A copy will be provided in the Parent/Student Handbook and Norman Binkley website.

AT THE ANNUAL MEETING…

·  The Parent Involvement Policy, Compact and School-wide/Targeted plan will be presented and voted upon.

·  Parents will be informed about the school’s parental involvement programs and their rights to be involved.

·  Parents unable to attend will receive a copy of the policy, the plan and meeting minutes.

VI.COMMUNICATION TO PARENTS

·  The school will provide information about school’s performance and student performance profiles with interpretations, including State standards and assessments.

·  Parents will learn how to monitor a child’s progress and work with teachers to improve student performance.

·  Parents will be encouraged to attend parent meetings, volunteer, observe in classroom activities, evaluate and schedule conferences with school personnel.

·  A description and explanation of the assessment plan, student expectations and proficiency levels will be communicated in the Parent/Student Handbook.

·  Translators will be provided, when needed.

VII.FUNDING

Funds might be used for various parental involvement activities (including childcare/other expenses) to enable parents to participate in meetings and trainings.
