INTRADISTRICT ATTENDANCE ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS
I.Definition of Terms
Intradistrict attendance is attendance at a school within the Pleasanton Unified School District but outside of the designated school attendance area for the pupil's place of residence.
II.Administrative Responsibilities
A.The Pupil Services Department shall be responsible for executing all requests for intradistrict transfers, approving requests, and handling disputes.
B.Any appeal of the Assistant Director's decision shall be heard by the Assistant SuperintendentEducational Services.
III.Initiating the Request for Transfer
A.Intradistrict transfer requests are necessary for regular day sessions. Requests are not necessary for special education, LEP programs, summer sessions and/or adult education classes.
B.Requests for intradistrict transfers are granted on an annual school year basis. They are automatically terminated as of June 30, unless a renewal is requested by June 15 for the succeeding year.
C.The parent or guardian is responsible for initiating the transfer request by means of an Intradistrict Transfer Form, which can be obtained from the Pupil Services Department. The reasons for the request are to be stated in detail, and the completed form is to be returned to the Pupil Services Department. Transfer requests may be submitted after May 1 for consideration for the following year and will be acted upon prior to September 1.
D.All transfer requests or renewals will be approved on a space available basis.
IV.Valid Reasons for Granting Transfer
A.Transfers may be granted on a space available basis for the following reasons:

1.A specific instructional program not offered at the school of residence.
2.Medical reasons documented in writing by a physician.
3.Social environment reasons documented in writing by Pupil Services staff, juvenile court or probation, or resident school administrator.
4.K5 ONLY: Child care outside of the resident school's boundary and within the transfer school's boundary.
5.a.Completion of 5th, 8th, or 12th grade at the transfer school subsequent to a change of residence. (1year maximum)
b.Completion of the current school year subsequent to a change of residence within the school district. (Remainder of the school year only)
6.Change of residence pending within 40 school days from the date of the request. (Accompanied by a copy of proof of purchase or rental agreement.)
7.District initiated because of lack of space, lack of teachers, or unsuitability of building due to a disaster, etc.
8.Sibling attendance: Brothers and sisters of pupils attending either high school in the 1990-91 school year may attend the high school attended by that brother or sister.
B.The Assistant Director of Pupil Services shall be responsible for all requests for intradistrict transfers.
V.Processing the Request for Transfers
A.The Assistant Director of Pupil Services may request background information from the principal, or designee, of the school of residence and/or the requested school of attendance.
1.The principal, or designee, may interview the parent or guardian, pupil, outside agencies, or individuals for additional data regarding the request.

2.The principal, or designee, of the requested school of attendance is responsible for determining whether space exists to grant this request.
3.The principals, or designees, may recommend approval, or choose to not recommend approval, for the following reasons:
a.lack of space in a particular grade or program.
b.impact on the staffing ratio of the school.
c.the pupil's record of attendance, discipline, and/or achievement.
d.invalid reason(s). (See Valid Reasons for Granting Transfers, above)
B.The principals', or designees', recommendations are forwarded to the Assistant Director of Pupil Services for approval.
C.Pending a decision by the Assistant Director of Pupil Services, the pupil will remain on the rolls of the school of residence.
D.The Assistant Director of Pupil Services will notify the parent or guardian and principals of the schools involved of the decision.
1.If the request has been approved, the parent or guardian may enroll the pupil at the new school of attendance.
2.If the request has been denied, the parent or guardian and of the school of residence shall be informed.
3.The parent or guardian may appeal the decision of the Assistant Director of Pupil Services to the Director of Pupil Services.
E.A copy of the transfer request with recommendations shall be kept on file in the Pupil Services Department.

VI.Follow Up for Renewals
A.Prior to May 1, the Pupil Services Department shall notify parents or guardians of the termination date of June 30. Unless a renewal is requested prior to June 15, the pupil shall be enrolled at the school of residence for the next school year.
B.The school staff shall be notified by the Pupil Services Department that the pupil is not to be scheduled until a renewal is approved.
VII. Grounds for Revoking the IntraDistrict Transfer
A.The intradistrict transfer may be revoked by the school of attendance for the following reasons:
1.lack of space.
2.irregular attendance.
3.unsatisfactory academic progress.
4.failure to adhere to the school/district discipline policy.
B.If the transfer is to be revoked for one of the reasons stated above:
1.The principal, or designee, shall hold a conference with the parent or guardian of the pupil regarding the problem(s), stating that the pupil's transfer status is at risk.
2.The pupil shall be given an opportunity to remediate the problem(s).
3.The principal, or designee, shall hold a second conference with the parent, or guardian, stating that the problem(s) continues to exist and that he/she is revoking the transfer.
4.The decision to revoke an intradistrict transfer rests with the principal.
5.If the intradistrict transfer is revoked, the parent or guardian, school of residence, and Assistant Director of Pupil Services shall be informed of this fact in writing by the principal.

6.The transfer school shall document this procedure in writing on "Notification of a Decision to Revoke an Intra-District Transfer" form. (See attached)
