PROGRAMME MANAGER(SCOTLAND AND NORTHERN IRELAND)

Report to: the Programme Director, Transforming Lives: reducing women’s imprisonment across the UK

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Programme Manager (Scotland and Northern Ireland) will be located in the Families Outside office in Edinburgh and will:

  • Develop,co-ordinate and drive the strategy to reduce women’s imprisonment in Scotland and Northern Ireland
  • Establish and work with an advisory panel of women service users
  • Work closely with criminal justice agencies , women’s organisations, and the devolved administrations to achieve the programme’s objectives
  • Work with the Chief Executive of Families Outside to lead the drive to reduce theimprisonment of mothersand the damaging impact on their families across the UK
  • Identify and profile good practice demonstration projects in the community that can be replicated
  • Work with partner organisations, including the Soroptimists, in Scotland and Northern Ireland, to build a compelling alliance in support of the strategy
  • Contribute to press and parliamentary briefings, and use research findings to inform the Scottish Parliament and the Northern Ireland Assembly
  • Liaise with and report regularly to the Programme Director, Reducing Women’s Imprisonment, at the Prison Reform Trust.
  • Contribute to programme reports at regular intervals for consideration by Families Outside, the Prison Reform Trust board of trustees, the Big Lottery Fund and supporters
  • Work as a senior member of staff alongside the friendly, committed team at Families Outside and as a long distance but valued member of the team at the Prison Reform Trust.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Evidence of capacity to manage projects with proven impact
  • A self-motivated, independent worker who is determined, energetic and committed
  • Experience of successful programme delivery
  • Proven research and analysis experience
  • Knowledge of government, in particular in Scotland and Northern Ireland, the criminal justice system and the voluntary sector throughout the UK
  • Evidence of production of high profile reports and publications and their impact
  • Excellent organisational, written and verbal communication skills, including experience and confidence in public speaking, report-writing and dealing with press and media
  • Demonstrable ability to build long term sustainable relationships with decision makers, partner and other organisations and, crucially, beneficiaries of the programme
  • Excellent planning, development and project management skills
  • Capacity to take a flexible, creative approach
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, women’s justice reform
  • Excellent IT skills
  • A sound academic record
  • A willingness and ability to travel and be flexible with working arrangements

General information

  • The job will be based at the Families Outside offices in Edinburgh and will involve travel particularly within Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as to Prison Reform Trust offices in London
