Mr. Wong’s Get Healthy Stay Healthy Journal

Feb. 1.13

Nearly two weeks since I’ve been in touch with everyone and I hope everybody is getting healthy and staying healthy. From some of the school reports I know many of you are;

Heard from Ms Letterlough’s class at Sk’elep School of Excellence and they provided me with some very good advice on how to get healthy and stay healthy. First of all cut back on the sweets and for the most part I’ve done that but I still occasionally have my ice cream treat.

They also suggested I need to eat more vegetables, fruits, drink more water and stay away from fast food restaurants.

From my visit earlier this week to Sts’ailes Community School Ms Anglehart’s and Ms Adamson’s Grade 8 students “took stock” of my progress and due to a 3.5 pound loss and no loss in height (that’s a joke) I was able to drop my BMI to 29. Not great but at least it’s going in the right direction. They strongly suggested I should get more active, which I’ve tried to by walking instead of driving when I can. As an example I now walk to the local grocery store instead of driving and going for a 30-60 minute walk each day and I attend an aerobics class on Saturday mornings (and I’m still sore from that experience). But I was put to shame when Ms Anglehart and Ms Adamson demonstrated what they have been doing for fitness… kick boxing and martial arts, and I’ve got the picture to show it. Thanks to the school for the invitation and also for the healthy lunch!

Ms Macdonald at Eugene Joseph Elementary Secondary School passed on the results of the How Fit Are You? survey from her Grades 1-2, Grades 3-4 and Grades 5-6 students. From this base line they can monitor their respective progress. By looking at my survey results back on Jan. 16 I can see progress being made in the amount of water I am drinking and the increased flexibility in my body, though it still hurts to stretch!

Ms MacLeod sent some photographs of her students at Eliza Archie Memorial Band School doing not only push ups but a variety of activities to get healthy and to stay healthy. I think I’ll try some of these myself! I’ll post some of these on the webpage.

I’ve got the Parents Club Conference Thursday and Friday, better be extra careful around the buffet table! See you next week.
