Marshall High School Chapter of the National Honor Society

Purpose

The purpose of the Marshall High School Chapter of the National Honor Society shall be to create enthusiasm for academic scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the students of Marshall High School and the community.

Membership

Membership in this chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is reviewed by the Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service. No one area is weighted any higher than the other. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.

Membership of this chapter shall be known as active and graduate. Active members shall become graduate members at graduation.

Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be members of the junior or senior class and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or its equivalent. The candidate’s eligibility shall then be considered on scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Activities

The chapter shall be involved in multiple service projects each year.All members shall regularly participate in these projects and activities.The activities and projects shall have the following characteristics: fulfill a need within the school or community; have the support of the administration and the faculty; be appropriate and educationally defensible; be well planned, organized, and executed.

Meetings

The chapter shall have monthly chapter meetings and committee meetings and all members shall be required to attend the scheduled meetings and activities.

Time Commitment

One chapter meeting per month.

One committee meeting per month (time is flexible and can be arranged).

Committee project responsibilities (time is flexible and can be arranged).
