Joint Sealant

1.11

Where so indicated on the drawings, joints are to be sealed using a high performance, one part elastomeric joint sealant based on Silyl Modified Polymers. All joints must be prepared, and primed if required, in accordance with the manufacturer’s current technical data sheet.

1.12

Preparation

The joint surfaces must be thoroughly dry and clean. Remove all laitance, curing compounds, form release agents, loose materials and any contaminating foreign matter from joint faces.

All materials used in conjunction with the new sealant system, shall be approved by the sealant manufacturer.

1.13

Primer

Where required, allow to prime the two substrate joint sides with a substrate suitable, compatible primer.

1.14

The Sealant is to be an elastomeric, waterproof and durable, one component Silyl Modified Polymer sealant. The sealant may be applied in joints with a minimum width of 5 mm. The sealant Width to Depth ratio should be1:1for joints up to 10mm wide, kept at a minimum of 10mmfor joint widths between 10mm and 20mm, and 2:1 for joint widths greater than 20mm. Install backing rod in joint tocontrol sealant depth.

The sealant shall exhibit the following properties:

Movement accommodation factor: / +/- 25% (total 50%)
Typical hardness: / 30 - 36 / (Shore ‘A’ (ISO 868))
100% Modulus: / 0.65 – 0.85 MPa / (ISO 8339)
Elongation at break: / > 520%
Continuous service range: / minus 15oC to +70oC
