Listening to the People: As you know, the Catholic Church in Ireland is in serious difficulty. Everyone agrees that we need to do something to arrest the decline of our Church and plan for the future. In difficult times, we need to continue to place hope in faith. During the months of Feb. & March, the people of Killala diocese, including the people of Backs Parish, will be given an opportunity to say what they think and to give their opinion on what we need to do. A special committee has drawn up a simple survey which, when completed, will help us to understand what people are thinking and saying. Every parishioner will have the opportunity to say what they believe we need to do by filling in the same survey. Members of the committee will be visiting each parish (including ours) and will give the members of the Parish Council an opportunity to complete the survey. There will be copies available in the parish and we will be talking about this and explaining it in more detail at Masses next weekend.
This survey that involves an organised listening to the people of the parishes of the diocese has the support of Bishop John Fleming, the priests of the diocese and our own support too. We ask you to give it your wholehearted support.
