Abstract: The Manhattan Mathematics Professional Development Project (the PROJECT)

Over a three-year period, this grant will reach a critical mass of mathematics teachers who can provide improved mathematics instruction and who can improve student achievement on standardized mathematics exams. In collaboration with partners such as the City College of New York and Math Solutions, The Manhattan Mathematics Professional Development Project (the PROJECT) has been designed to promote increased educational capacity of trained teachers to improve student achievement. Teachers of grades K thru 12 will be provided with professional development in both content and instructional pedagogy to help support professional development requirements of schools. Periodic informal observations to help the evaluation process and identify areas for improvement, both benefits and the challenges, will be conducted. The evaluation process implementation will be both quantitative and qualitative. Data sources will be tracked with statistical analysis by our evaluator, SPEZCO. Participating trainees are grouped into various programs based on their interest and qualifications.
