APPROVED BY JTF BOARD CHAIRMAN

1. Aliases are used to translate the unique numeric identifier sent by the calling radio into a display that contains a meaningful alphanumeric identifier to the Dispatch console receiving an incoming call. This system Alias translation assists the Duty Officer in identifying what Agency, Who and What type of radio is calling. Each agency is responsible to provide timely alias updates to ensure the safety of the user.

2. To insure system-wide alias integrity, identity and uniformity, the following Agency alias schemes will be implemented. Eight characters are currently available for use. The dashes (-) in both the Prefix and Suffix should be used if at all possible to facilitate visual Duty Officer recognition of:

3. Prefix: Agency - (the first Character(s) and a Dash) (PREFIX-UNITNUMBER-SUFFIX)

4. Unit Number: Employee Radio Call Sign if the radio is permanently assigned to an individual, or a description of the type of station and/or vicinity location if the radio is assigned to stations that are used by multiple radio users on a rotating-shift, pool basis. (Up to Four Characters)

(PREFIX-UNITNUMBER-SUFFIX)

5. Suffix: Type of Radio (Mobile, Portable, Aircraft, Off-road, etc.)

(Dash and a Character) (PREFIX-UNITNUMBER-SUFFIX)

The recommended dashes (-) following Agency designators and preceding Type of Radio or Direction of Travel suffixes used as Duty Officer visual recognition aids may be eliminated to facilitate proper identification of rotating-shift, pool radios. Examples of these instances are provided later in this SOP.
