Liz Cocks,

9 Travel Secretary’s Report:

9.1Neil mentioned communications he had been having with the RFF with respect to the disadvantageous changes that has been made to GroupSave tickets. The nub of the matter is that it does not appear that Neil will be getting any joy to the changes, which are rumoured to have been cooked up at a “ secret meeting “ of TOC’s. Neil mentioned that there are some small group offers around, but you have to search them out.

9.2 Neil also warned the meeting that the ticket machines at St Pancras International were not providing cheap tickets when he was recently travelling to a game at Luton but also not telling you. To get the cheapest tickets you need to go to the ticket office.

9.3 Ian Wood (Burnley ) mentioned a new rail route to Burnley was commencing next year with an hourly service.

9.4 Chris Learmouth (Hearts ) bemoaned the closure of the East Coast reward scheme following the awarding of the new franchise and asked members to sign the petition which he would send to Neil to circulate..

Neil Le Milliere,

10 Sports & Social Secretaries Reports

10.1 Pool

10.1.1Although Newcastle top the league with 51 points by virtue of playing 8 matches they are about to lose their title. Southampton are 2nd whilst Middlesbrough and Sunderland are joint 3rd.

All three have 49 points from 6 games with Southampton 2nd only on 'goal' difference

Sheffield Wednesday and Exeter still need to play catch-up having each played just 4 matches. The good guys are Barrow/Plymouth and West Brom who are up to date with 9 games completed

Cheers Steve Mob 07772047273

10.2 Football

10.2.1Terry Cecil gave the following brief report to the meeting:

In division 1 Aberdeen lead Middlesbrough by 4 points.

In division 2 Bristol City lead, Exeter City have lost 15 games this season (sorry Neil & Roger! ).

The cup semi-finals are Hull City v Bristol City and Middlesbrough v Blackburn.

Terry Cecil, APFSCIL Football League Secretary

10.3 Darts

10.3.1 Most teams seem to have got through their fixtures without too many hitches, so many thanks to all captains for all your arrangements during the season. If any team feel they’re not going to fulfil their fixtures, then please get in touch.

For the record, Leicester lead Division 1, though Nottingham Forest in second, do have games in hand. In Division 2, it’s a four-horse race with just 9 points separating the top four of Scunthorpe, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Chester.

In Division 3, Blackpool are the leaders, with Newcastle and Exeter close behind.

10.3.2 And here’s a report from Chris Farthing relating to the APFSCIL’s singles knockout competition held on 16 March.

A slightly below-par field of 20 players, representing 10 teams from across all three APFSCIL darts divisions contested the 2014/2015 singles knockout. Chester City had the biggest representation. The competition was won for the 2nd year in a row by Craig Munro, representing Nottingham Forest. Craig lost only two legs on the night and never looked in trouble.

The highlight of the preliminary round was a high quality match between Ian Davey and Matt Maguire. Ian prevailed 2-1 with the match finishing well before the other 2-0 matches. The tastiest encounters of the first round saw Phil Cordingley come from behind to beat Raj Gujjalu 2-1 including a 138 check-out for Phil, and Zach Mendelsohn overcome Ian Davey also on the deciding leg. Highlight of the quarter finals was the match between Scott Alderdice and Simon Pilsbury ‘finishing’ 2-1 to Scott, only for the players on reporting the result being told the matches were best-of-5. Simon turned the match around to win 3-2.

The semi-finals were best-of-7 and in the top half of the draw Simon beat Peter Reeves 4-1, with Craig beating Phil by the same score in the bottom half. In the final the first two legs were close with Simon peppering the single 20 but carefully avoiding the treble. Craig didn’t hang about once down to a double. It looked like it wasn’t going to be Simons night when at the end of the 3rd leg Craig faced 110, and threw at the bull after hitting the first treble-20, catching the thin end of the 18, and then hitting the remaining double-16. Soon after that it was all over.

For the first time this year a plate competition was run for players who had played in the main event but not got as far as the quarter-final, this kept everyone busy for a bit longer, and resulted in Ian Davey taking home the non-existent trophy after beating Daniel Zicha 2-1 in the final.

Thanks once again to Richard at The Horseshoe for hosting and feeding us.

Chris Turner
