Cwm Taf Social Services and Wellbeing Partnership Board

Social Services and Well Being Act Briefing paper

RCT and Merthyr (CWMTAF) are going to be working together, to make things better for children, young people, families and their communities.

Children, young people and adults from across Cwmtaf, were asked about ‘what matters to them’. This information was shared with everyone who is responsible for making decisions about what happens to help and support everyone in Cwmtaf.

The information was then put into a strategy, showing how this is going to work for everyone, making sure that everyone is involved, especially children, young people and families.

The 3 main points in this strategy are:-
  • The right help, at the right time, in the best way possible.
  • For people whose lives are starting to get difficult, help should be given as soon as possible.
  • When people are really struggling, they need a lot of help and they also need it in many different ways, which is very important.

By working together, and that means everyone, children, young people and families should be able to look forward to a better future.

Over the next 5 years we must:-

  • All work together.
  • Involve children, young people and families in whatever help and support they have, making sure they have their own SAY.
  • Organisations and services MUST work together WITH local communities.
  • Make sure that children and young people who need a lot of support, get all the help they need.

Everyone involved in this ‘Plan’ agree:-

  • Children, young people and families live their lives safely, healthily and with confidence.
  • Families and communities will be strong.
  • It is important that our environments are great places to be.
  • More time should be spent on making sure people have the help they need early on, to stop things getting any worse.

And how will this happen? Over the next 3 years we will work together and concentrate on:-

a)Making sure childhoods are better and happy for children

b)Working WITH local communities to help and support children, young people and families

c)Involving everyone in Plans for the future

d)Protecting children, young people and adults who need extra help in our communities

e)Having different types of help available for people who need it

f)Giving children and young people a hand to have their say, in any decisions made about them

g)Putting monies together so that it can be spent in a better way

h)Coming up with a way to work to suit everyone

i)Sharing information so that we can all work better together

j)Being able to check that we are making things better for children, young people and families. Also showing the Welsh Government how things are going

k)Regularly checking our Plans

l)Making sure that workers understand exactly how they should be working with people and communities

We want to make sure that any Plans we make show that we have listened to children, young people, families and communities. So we would be really grateful if you could complete our online questionnaire at .
