Hosted at Trinity High School

4011 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40207

Dear Speech and Debate Team Coaches/Students:

Trinity High School and North Oldham High School are proud to invite you to the SIXTH Annual Trinity/North Oldham “Press Your Luck” THREE-ROUND Classic on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Trinity High School in Louisville!

THAT'S RIGHT! It's a day of ALL TREATS and NO TRICKS (although you never know) on this HALLOWEEN-THEMED TOURNAMENT!

Entry registration will be managed through our tournament site at www.tabroom.com. In order to register, you will need to create a user account at that site if you do not have one. Registration can be accessed at www.tabroom.com

Students MAY change into Halloween costumes AFTER competition. We will be hosting some fun games while they wait for awards.

AGAIN THIS YEAR: We both feel that our speech and debate coaches and students are like family, so we are working to include a great service project for participating teams again this year! We will send more details soon, but we are collecting well-needed supplies for the YMCA Safe Place Services of Louisville. We truly hope that your team will help us in this endeavor to provide basic necessities, clothing, and additional items for the upcoming winter season. We are looking forward to posting more details about this very special project! For a quick look at this great organization, check out the link at

TOURNAMENT DETAILS:

NOTE: We are hosting a CLASSIC THREE-ROUND TOURNAMENT this year. This way, your students will be able to compete in more events, and it will also be a wonderful preparation for the structure of KHSSL State and KCFL.

YES, STUDENTS MAY QUAD in IE!

Non-Debate Students (those only in IE) may enter up to FOUR individual speech events per tournament. Please remind your students, however, that we will not hold rounds for late competitors. They are advised to be on time to all rounds.

WE WILL ALLOW DEBATERS TO DOUBLE OUT WITH ONE INDIVIDUAL SPEECH EVENT—with the exception of EXTEMP.

Students who enter in congress and debate together should understand that debate comes FIRST.

NOTE: If a debater is more than 10-minutes late to a debate round, that competitor will automatically forfeit that round.

We will include varsity rounds in individual events and will feature all thirteen Kentucky high school speech events: Broadcasting (round I commercial, round II three-minute student prepared news, and round III tournament-prepared news program), Declamation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Improvisational Duo, Oratory, Poetry, POI, Prose, and Storytelling.

The debate portion of the tournament will include BOTH varsity Lincoln Douglas and Public Forum. If there is enough interest, we will offer novice divisions as well.

We would also like to offer POLICY DEBATE and CONGRESS. If you are interested in Policy or Congress, please email one of us at your earliest convenience.

ENTRY DEADLINE

4:00 p.m. EST on Friday, October 30, 2015 . All drops and adds after this deadline will be subject to a $10.00 fee. We will also be assessing a $10 no-show fee for any student who neglects to compete in ANY round without being officially dropped by the team coach. Substitutions are complimentary.

And yes--we will use these topics at our tournament:Policy Debate

2015-2016 Topic
Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially curtail its domestic surveillance.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate

2015 September/October LD Topic
Resolved: Adolescents ought to have the right to make autonomous medical choices.

The debate tournament will award trophies to the top 4 finishers in each event, top speakers in LD and Policy, and the top 4 schools.

JUDGES/FEES:

You must provide one judge for every six speech entries or fraction thereof; 1-6 entries = 1 judge; 7-12 entries = 2 judges, etc. Remember, Duo Interp and Improv Duo count as one entry in judges needed and as two entries in fees to pay ($5 per student = $10 per duo entry). Debate judges will be 1 for every two entries or fraction thereof.

You may hire judges you do not provide for $40 each, but we want your judges, not your money! Your judges should be familiar with the KHSSL rules and ballots.
