Title: “Divorce”
When: Thurs, September 8th, 2016, 8:00-8:45am (FREE)
Location: Smarts Mill Middle School, Leesburg, VA 20176
Description: People often think of the “D” word as an impossible experience to be positive with. While it may be a sad transition to experience, there are things families can learn to help the process be as smooth as possible. This workshop will facilitate a discussion around how to inform children of the divorce, tips while going through it, as well as “rules” to follow when co-parenting. Co-parenting can be a difficult task unless forgiveness occurs, which is why steps toward forgiveness will be included in this discussion.
Title:“Parenting a Child with ADHD”

Description:Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a common diagnosis and yet often parents are not given much information on what to do when their child is given this label. This seminar will explain the disorder, talk about how it affects children, and discuss parenting strategies to help support children with ADHD. This seminar will cover how therapy services in our community can help empower parents to feel confident in how they support their child.
Title:“6 Steps to Avoid Power Struggles with Your Children”

Description: Parenting has its ups and downs. That being said, parents often find themselves in power struggles with their children, no matter if the child is 3 or 16. While the parenting of each age group may differ, it can be helpful to recognize a situation as having potential to go down that road and know detours around it. This seminar will help parents do just that in teaching 6 steps to avoid power struggles with their children. Examples will be used to demonstrate how to apply these steps.

Title: “Mindful Parenting”
When:Wed, November 30th, 2016, 7-8pm
Description:Parenting is no easy task, however parenting mindfully can be quite easy and it can help lay the framework for a better dynamic between you and your children. This seminar will engage you in a few simple mindfulness exercises and talk about how it can help you at home when parenting your children. Participants will walk away with skills they can use and also learn signs to look for when deciding if therapy should be accessed.
Title:“Parenting Through The Pre-Teen & Teen Years”
When:Wed, December 28th, 2016, 7-8pm
Description: While many of the fundamentals of parenting pre-teens and teenagers remain consistent, parenting has certainly changed. This seminar will discuss some basic parenting skills such as discipline, school issues, and drug and alcohol use, as well as some aspects that have evolved with the times. Such topics will include self-harm and suicide, school avoidance and healthy limits with electronic devices.
Title: “Anxiety Disorders”

Description:This workshop will explain various types of anxiety disorders and the potential impact each has on an individual. It will talk about how individual and/or family counseling services can help people live the life they want to live, versus their symptoms taking the lead in life.
Title:“Stress Management & Self-Care”
When: Wed, February 22nd, 2017, 7-8pm
Description:Everyone has stress in life and often time lose sight of taking care of him/herself as a result. Participants will learn simple, yet impactful, strategies to manage stress to help foster caring for him/herself. Knowing when simple strategies are not enough is important as well. Participants will gain an understanding as to when to reach out to mental health professionals as well.
Title:“Mindfulness Skills To Help with Anxiety & Everyday Stress”
When: Wed, March 29th, 2017, 7-8pm
Description: This workshop willintroduce mindfulness to participants and discuss how it can be helpful in everyday life. Topics will include the effects as well as the application of mindfulness. Participants will engage in a few different types of mindfulness exercises as well.
