ARTS MINOR REQUIREMENTS
The MU Department of Art offers a minor governed by the following rules:

  • A minimum of eighteen (18) hours in course credit is required.
  • Fifteen (15) credit hours must be in studio art courses, of which a minimum of six (6) credit

hours must be numbered 2000 and above.

  • At least nine (9) of these credit hours must be taken in residence at the University of Missouri-

Columbia.

  • A minimum of three (3) credit hours of Art History is required.
  • Student must have at least a 2.00 GPA in the required courses. Student must receive a grade of

“C-“ or better in all courses required for the minor. Grades of “D” will not be accepted. Pass/Fail

graded courses will not be accepted except for approved study abroad coursework.

  • A total of six (6) hours of transfer credit will be accepted toward the minor.
  • A&S majors cannot “double count” art minor coursework toward other A&S minor and/or

major requirements.

  • If you are an art history major or minor, the art history course used for the art minor cannot

also be used in the art history major or minor.

  • A minor must be completed and awarded at the same time as the MU undergraduate degree –

minors cannot be claimed after graduation. Students cannot earn a major and a minor in Art.

  • Complete the form on the reverse side.
  • Take this form, with a copy of your transcript to the departmental Director of Undergraduate

Studies for assistance in completing the form.

  • After the Director of Undergraduate Studies has signed the minor form, the student must submit

the minor form to the A&S Advisement Center, 107 Lowry Hall, PRIOR to graduation. The signed minor form will be kept in the student’s file.
