Chapter 13 DBQ Rubric

Discuss the elements of causation for the American Civil War from 1860-1861.

1. Discuss and analyze at least three basic issues causing the Civil War.

2. Discuss the impact of events, ideas, and conflicts as agents of the coming Civil War.

3. Was the war avoidable or inevitable given the events and personalities of the times?

4. What impact did compromise succeed and fail in dealing with the coming of the Civil War?

An uneasy peace in the sectional conflict between the South and the North held until the 1840s, when western expansion and slavery intersected. The nationalism that helped unify the country also inspired territorial growth, and that ultimately tore the nation apart.
