Energy Networks Association (ENA) represents the transmission and distribution network operators for electricity and gas in the UK and Ireland. Our members control and maintain the critical national infrastructure that delivers these vital services into our homes and businesses. As the voice of the energy networks sector ENA acts as a strategic focus and channel of communication for the industry.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly motivated person to join our small safety, heath and environment (SHE) team providing support for ENA’s member companies. The role will support the Director of Operations and Head of SHE in managing, facilitating, coordinating and delivering the work of the various industry SHE committees. The team’s work predominantly relates to the electricity networks sector.

Important aspects of the role will be to develop consensus amongst ENA’s Member Companies on specific operational issues and to represent ENA member companies in engaging with officials from government regulators, unions and other stakeholders in the sector. Once the candidate has relevant experience there may also be the opportunity to represent the sector at UK and potentially European events.

The near future is likely to bring great changes in the way that energy networks are developed and operated in a smarter environment in order to meet the challenges of a low carbon economy. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play an active role in this exciting work.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Main duties will be to:-

·  Provide secretariat to the major SHE committees (SHE Committee, National HESAC and Powering Improvement Steering Group) and other committees and working groups as required;

·  Work closely with member company SHE Managers to organise and facilitate the quarterly meetings of the SHE Managers Group and its associated outputs;

·  Provide support to the organisation of the annual ENA SHE Management Conference;

·  Work with Head of SHE to progress the industry’s H&S strategy Powering Improvement;

·  Deputise for colleagues as necessary in coordinating and facilitating the SHE framework of committees;

·  Work with ENA Communications Team to manage ENA’s suite of Public Safety Leaflets;

·  Monitor ENA companies’ input to HSE’s database of public safety-related incidents;

·  Manage the ENA accident database and produce annual reports for the SHE Committee and Powering Improvement Steering Committee;

·  Manage Electromagnetic Field (EMF) customer calls database and produce quarterly updates for EMF Strategy Committee;

·  Manage SHE enquiries from ENA member companies, the public and other stakeholders;

·  Represent ENA at internal and external meetings ;

·  Contribute to the overall work of the Operations Team and conduct any other duties as required by the Director of Operations and Head of SHE.

There may be opportunities to undertake relevant training associated within the Safety, Health & Environment arena.

Person specification

Essential criteria:

·  Able to identify and manage key issues concerning safety and operational requirements for distribution and transmission networks.

·  Ability to establish trusting and professional relationships with member companies, and a range of stakeholders, to progress objectives and outcomes.

·  Can work with members and stakeholders in collaborative way so as to shape consensus

·  Strong organisational skills and takes responsibility for delivering expected outcomes on time and to standard

·  Effective communicator, both orally and in writing - including ability to draft papers, reports and industry responses.

·  Can analyse and evaluate data to inform policy proposals, industry responses and decisions

·  Able to work independently as well as a team player

Desirable criteria:

·  Beneficial to have a background in energy or utilities sector context

·  Some experience in Health & Safety

·  NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
