Bringing hands-on experience in Iraq, Kurdistan, and the UAE, management of teams in two countries spanning different time zones, cultures, languages, and responsibilities – my roles in business analytics, operations management, strategic planning, and client relations through the business establishment, development, and optimization phases has taught me lessons well suited for the PMG team.

I am keenly interested in joining a unit that will expose me to meaningful projects and challenging tasks, keys the Project Management division seems to promote.

Beginning my career with NAWAH Investments as a Business Analyst in Washington DC, I was asked to assist in the opening of three new offices in Dubai - for the three companies within the group: Port Management, Supply & Distribution, and Investments. During this establishment and development phase of the company, I oscillated between big picture projects such as strategic planning and budgeting, and detail oriented day-to-day operational requirements. From handling the mundane, but essential office administrative tasks of payroll, expense reporting, and company bank account opening, to UAE corporate entity formation, ERP system development, and market analysis – I traded time performing business analysis to achieve a well rounded understanding of the corporation’s structure and finances to better prepare the businesses for growth.

As the NAWAH Group of Companies expanded, I was able to grow as well - assuming a role as Operations Manager within the Supply & Distribution business unit. Following the growth of both major revenue-generating streams for the business – door-to-door logistics and product sales – I directed, developed, and steered teams in Basra and Dubai, speakers of Arabic, English, and Hindi. While mastering the complete order process – from a request for services/products to delivery and payment collection – these teams gradually adopted best-practice procedures that led to company ISO 9001 certification in early 2015, while concurrently expanding business development efforts with International Oil Companies and local Iraqi players alike.

Currently, I am leading systems and operations initiatives, with a focus on process optimization for all operational divisions: shipping, terminal, warehousing, and ground freight. Simultaneously, I manage all strategic oil and gas accounts – suppliers, partners, and clients – in Basra, Dubai, and Erbil for the Supply & Distribution business unit. It has been an exciting and challenging role, with complex projects, most recently a yearlong product sale involving full door-to-door logical services for a $2.5M pipeline. With great team members, strong practices, freedom to travel to Iraq and Kurdistan, and support from management, this has been a rewarding position that has left me ready to explore new projects.

My experience working in the NAWAH Group of Companies has taught me the value of long-term project management and customer engagement – and the ever-present implications for cash flow, investors, personnel, and business development. Further, I’ve learned how accepting challenges and tackling issues can be rewarding personally and professionally, occurrences PMG will be sure to present. In short, I feel well suited to join PMG’s team, and contribute my experiences immediately while learning the nuances of the project management unit for long-term value-add.

WORK EXPERIENCE

North America Western Asia Holdings, Strategic Operations Manager June 2015 – Present

Basra, Iraq | Dubai, UAE | Erbil, Kurdistan Six Months

As the Strategic Operations Manager for the NAWAH (North America Western Asia Holdings) Group of Companies, I led systems and operations initiatives, with a focus on process optimization for all operational divisions: shipping, terminal, warehousing, and ground freight. Simultaneously, I managed all strategic oil and gas accounts – suppliers, partners, and clients –in Basra, Dubai, and Erbil including:

Shell/Basra Gas Company (BGC)– While engaging with BGC’s Senior Contracts Engineers, Logistics Supervisor, and Warehouse/Inventory Manager, I supported executive negotiations of a sales contract with Basra site visits, and operational perspectives during leadership meetings in Abu Dhabi and Dubai

BGC is contracted with the state-run South Gas Company to rehabilitate Basra Province’s brownfield natural gas projects to increase production and lifetimes, through EPCs Technip, Chiyoda, Saipem, GE, and Worley Parsons.

Chemi-Link Corporation–Upon accepting SOC project management and contract delivery, our $2.7M project with Chemi-Link afforded me the opportunity to drive, coordinate, and when necessary, correct the material manufacturer, product distributor, coating facility, shipping agents, third party inspectors, financial/LC departments, and ground operations teams.

Chemi-Link is a leading EPC in southern Iraq, with engineering and oilfield services divisions that have worked on leak detection and testing, chemical supply, construction, and project management for South Oil Company (SOC).

KAR Group –Focusing on the sale of upstream products to support KAR’s Exploration & Production division, monthly visits to the Technical Advisors and executive representatives in Erbil have led to strong personal ties in this intimate and connected market.

KAR is currently producing one-fifth of Kurdistan’s oil, and operating up, mid, and downstream activities aimed at increasing production;KAR is the leader in a financially, geologically, and politically challenging environment.

Zagros Oil – Working with Zagros’s Business Development Manager to convert boundless ministerial and industry contacts into clients, and the Inventory Manager to ensure the correct execution of processes, Zagros presented unique cultural, coordination, and QA/QC challenges.

Zagros Oil adeptly navigates its local contacts in Kurdistan while working within the framework of the Zagros Group, known best for its breadth of expertise across the construction, IT, procurement, and transportation industries.

MRC Global–NAWAH’s exclusive alliance partner for the supply of oil and gas field equipment to the Iraq market, I regularly liaised with MRC’s Regional Director and Regional Business Development Managers for immediate and long term client needs, purchase and sale agreements, warehouse and inventory management, and cost and sale analyses.

MRC is the world’s largest supplier of oil and gas equipment and materials, and after opening a Regional Distribution Center in Jebel Ali (2014), MRC is focusing ever greater attention on Middle East and Iraq growth opportunities.

Facing the challenges of optimizing business practices in four distinct operational buckets, while managing very demanding strategic accounts taught me to empower and value independent, yet well trained team members, as well as hone and synchronize Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Warehouse Management (WMS), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software in an on-going effort to continuously improve our processes and the customer’s experience.

NAWAH Supply & Distribution Operations Manager January 2015 – June 2015

Basra, Iraq | Dubai, UAE | Erbil, Kurdistan Six Months

Following the growth of both major revenue-generating streams – door-to-door logistics and product sales – I directed, developed, and steered teams that were spread across times zones, cultures, languages, and responsibilities:

In Dubai, I managed a team of Western and sub-continental expats tasked with primarily client facing roles to coordinate deliveries, understand technical requirements, and manage the always-complex paperwork and documentation requirements for Iraq business.

In Basra, I managed teams of Iraqi nationals in three separate work sites tasked with operational budgeting, customs clearance, inventory and warehouse management, and ground freight delivery.

While mastering the complete order process – from a request for services/products to delivery and payment collection – these teams gradually adopted best-practice procedures that led to company ISO certification in early 2015, while concurrently expanding business development efforts with International Oil Companies and local Iraqi players alike.

NAWAH Investments / NAWAH Supply & Distribution Business Analyst June 2013 – January 2015

Basra, Iraq | Dubai, UAE | Washington, D.C., USA One Year, Eighteen Months

During the establishment and development phases of NAWAH’s port management and supply & distribution business lines, I oscillated between big picture projects such as strategic planning and budgeting, and detail oriented day-to-day operational requirements.
