Computer Hire Scheme Information2016

In 2016 our school will once again be operating a school based computer hire scheme for families.

The School Hire Scheme (SHS) makes available a Computer Kit to eligible families after they have been enrolled with the school for a minimum of six months.

The kit includes:

  • A Notebook Computer (running Windows 7 Professional, Office 2010 and school productivity software)
  • Notebook Carry bag, Power supply unit & Mouse

or

  • A Desktop Computer (running Windows 7 Professional, Office 2010 and school productivity software)
  • UPS (power supply), LCD Monitor and PC accessories (Keyboard and Mouse)

The school is able to offer technical support and full maintenance on all school owned equipment and software as part of the school Hire Scheme.

This year the Hire Cost has been set at $300.00

Education Queensland is making available an annual grant of $250 for Distance and Medical students to rent, hire or purchase a computer for school use.

For families to access this grant they must agree to:

  • Use the computer to participate in ‘On-air Lessons, complete their mandatory course materials and assessment items
  • Use the computer to maintain e-mail access with the school. (Students use school e-mail address and parents use private email address)

This means that the gap between the school hire cost and the computer grant is $50.

In addition to the $250 computer levy Education Queensland will also make available an Internet Subsidy for distance students only, of $500 per student to assist families with Broadband access.

Families DO NOT have to hire a school computer. You may wish to purchase / hire / rent your own computer for school use and still access the $250 computer access grant. To access this grant families will still need to agree to the conditions of the grant as mentioned above.

Please be aware that the school cannot offer technical support, assistance or advise on hardware\devices purchased or rented outside of the School Hire Scheme (SHS). Our schools Technical Officer will provide support only on productivity and educational software that is provided by the school for official purposes.

With the ever increasing technology component in the curriculum, families with several children in the school room may request a second computer. It is also recommended that all students can access an individual computer or device, as their curriculum subjects depend on computer access. To provide these computers to families, the school will need to charge a hire fee for the second computer to be able to financially manage this situation.

Funds received from the School Hire Scheme will be used to purchase replacement computers.

This is a wonderful scheme. We are able to make computer systems available to all families at a minimal cost. We are also able to support families with both technical and software support to ensure that families can actively participate in the school computer program.

The following information has been supplied in relation to items on loan to students and families or not located at departmental locations.
