Role Summary
The post holder will support and develop teaching and research activities within the Electronics subject group with particular emphasis on Electronics and Entertainment Technology. The post holder will have strong live events based skills with experience of current audio, lighting and video technologies.
You will be part of a technical team responsible for the maintenance and operation of college equipment.
Principal Accountabilities
Undertake any technical work related to our Electrical, Electronics and Entertainment Engineering provision. This will include general lab maintenance; preparation of space in line with teaching requirements; development of analogue and digital resources.
Undertake any technical work related to Sound, Light and Live Event Technology. This will include rigging; operating, focusing and programming lighting; operating sound and video equipment; and preparation of space in line with teaching requirements.
To support students with labs and projects, responding to queries, providing advice, use of electrical/electronic circuits and electronic test bench equipment.
To install and maintain electronic, audio, lighting and video equipment.
To fault find on circuits and circuit boards (often without diagrams to guide), identifying the problem and implementing a solution/fix.
To provide advice to academic staff. Help with the teaching of labs or research projects.
Generic Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Organising and maintaining specialist equipment and workshop spaces, and liaising with other Advisers over shared equipment and facilities.
2. Ensuring the efficient and safe operation of work areas and the implementation of all relevant Health and Safety regulations and policies, in conjunction with the Area Senior Technical Adviser.
3. Providing technical assistance, guidance and demonstrating to support student learning as agreed with the line manager.
4. Keeping up to date records of consumable stock, capital purchases and assets.
5. Advising on procurement needs and the ordering and purchase of materials and other items as necessary.
6. Assisting with the supervision and training of new or trainee technical staff.
7. If required, deputising for the Area Senior Technical Adviser with regard to the day to day supervision of the area technical staff.
8. Participating in the University’s Development Review process and engaging with staff development activity as agreed with the line manager.

HNC or HND in related discipline, or significant vocational experience

Experience of installing, operating and maintaining light and sound equipment.
Experience of entertainment rigging, staging units and truss system.
Experience of working in an electronics role in a lab based environment with demonstrable experience of electronics expertise.
Experience of working to Health and Safety regulations.

Comfortable working at heights.
Able to assess loads and safely fly truss systems.
Able to use electronic test bench equipment.
Ability to fault find electronic circuits without diagrams.

Demonstrable ability in the use of computer based equipment and computer literacy.

Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively to students and colleagues.

2.  Desirable Criteria
• Qualifications
Full Driving License
Degree in Electronic Engineering, Entertainment Engineering or significant vocational experience at an equivalent level.
IPAF 3A Qualification
• Experience
Education sector experience.
Experience of light and sound design.
Experience of PCB design.
Audio recording experience.
Video recording experience.
• Skills, knowledge and abilities
Able to use CAD and Design software such as Adobe suite packages and CAST WYSIWYG
Able to use Electronic design software such Labview, Multisim and Matlab.
Understanding of audio and video file capture formats.
