Job Description for Summer Language Schools –

Night Marshal

Candidate Profile:

The Night Marshal reports directly to the Centre Manager and Assistant Centre Manager. He/she is responsible for the safe running of the campus overnight. They are also responsible for the boarding houses overnight.

The Night Marshal will come in to contact with staff, students and members of the public on a regular basis and is expected to be courteous and helpful at all times.

This is not just a ‘security’ role, but one requiring vigilance, common-sense, and a methodical approach at all times.

Some experience of working with children in a professional setting and in a variety of contexts, is essential.

Experience of working with international people and/or in a customer-care role will be an advantage.

We are looking for individuals who can show previous experience in a customer facing environment, where they have been left to work on their own initiative

Main Duties to include:

  • To ensure the security, safety and well-being of the College, its members and bona fide visitors, and to protect property of the College, members and visitors against damage or theft, liaising with the permanent Clifton College security staff
  • Prioritising and responding to any issues requiring immediate attention during your shift, including fire alarm activations, medical issues requiring first aid, challenging unauthorised persons on premises and requests for assistance from Activity/House Leaders
  • To patrol College premises during night duty, visiting ALL Boarding Houses and other important areas as stipulated by the Centre Manager, ensuring the safety and security of these buildings and ensuring appropriate standards of behaviour are maintained by students overnight
  • To report all incidents affecting the security, safety or integrity of the college, its members and visitors promptly and in full, both in writing and verbally, to the Centre Manager, or other staff responsible for security or to the Police as appropriate. This includes any safety or maintenance issues which have come to your attention during the course of your shift which you have been unable to resolve yourself and which require further action by management
  • To maintain good relations at all times with staff, students and visitors to the College
  • To record nightly in log-book any untoward incidents that may have occurred during tour of duty
  • Assisting with arrivals and departures during the night shift, including assisting with suitcases etc. and ensuring those arriving/departing do not disturb others
  • To assist with the movement of groups of students around site, especially between the main school and outlying buildings
  • If necessary to assist with conducting fire drills when new students move into boarding houses (usually between 0700 and 0800 the morning after arrivals)
  • To carry out other duties as instructed by the Centre Manager

Rate of pay:£350.00 per week inclusive of holiday pay & full-board residential accommodation

Hours:

  • 4 nights per week, 2000 – 0800 overnight shift. Shifts will be in conjunction with the Clifton College Night Security Guard
  • Night Marshals are expected to offer full commitment to the position for the duration of the course.
  • Whether you are on or off duty, you will be expected to put the welfare of the students and staff first.

Dates:SUMMER: Saturday 2nd July – Monday 15th August 2016

(all applicants MUST be available for this entire period)

(there will be a day towards the end of June that we require staff to attend Clifton College for some basic first-aid/fire marshal training, this will be communicated to you if offered a position)

You are working with children. Consuming alcohol and substance abuse are not permitted at any time on campus or during working hours. Smokers may only smoke in designated areas when off duty. Staff must be fit to supervise students at all times. Failure to abide by these rules will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter and could lead to immediate dismissal.
