· 3 things required during the summer to avoid summer regression which occurs when the entire 4th quarter of learned material is lost over the summer. Such loss of knowledge results in kids having to start with 3rd qtr learning at the beginning of the next school year.
· Mrs. Newman: “Leader In Me” says put 1st things first. Read everyday during the summer.
· CMS has incentives to read over the summer.
· There are Resources for summer learning:
- Raz-Kids (know child’s reading level at end of school year)- goal is to read same level in the fall or one level up.
- Dream Box- must spend 60min/wk on Dreambox (can break it up in 20 min increments). Don’t help your child with Dreambox. It bumps the student up a level as they learn. It cannot be reset to a lower level.
- Best Resource: Compass Learning is aligned to MAP scores, based on individual child’s needs- do 60-90 min/wk. (Some parents need the Compass Learning login info- they can email the teacher to get it. Download Puffin app on iPad.) Don’t help your kid with Compass unless they need help w/ directions.
The General PTA meeting was adjourned at 6:45pm.
