SUBSTANCE MISUSE WORKER

Children & Young People’s Substance Misuse Worker

Purpose: / To provide a comprehensive, specialist substance misuse service to children and young people in Cwm Taf, and to deliver substance misuse education sessions to young people in a variety of settings.
Accountable to: / TEDS Management
Salary: / Starting at £19,590 pa
Base: / The project is based at the Engine House, Depot Road, Aberdare.
Hours of Work: / 37½ hours per week, flexible, will involve occasional evening work. No overtime is paid; a time off in lieu (TOIL) policy operates.
Annual Leave: / 29 days per year plus Bank Holidays. Increasing to 34 days after 5 years continuous employment with TEDS.
Travel: / Own transport and current driving licence essential. Travel expenses will be paid for travel away from the base (currently 40 pence per mile).
Security: / An enhanced DBS check will be undertaken.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1To provide one-to-one support to young people who are affected by substance misuse.

2To provide advice and information to young people seeking help to address their substance misuse.

3To deliver awareness raising sessions to young people in a variety of settings.

4To empower young people to enable them to help themselves through informed choice and decision making.

5To encourage positive use of and engagement with substance misuse services to stimulate change and achieve positive outcomes.

6To engage positively with young people.

7To liaise with and refer on to other agencies as appropriate and necessary.

8To work within TEDS policies and procedures.

9To maintain appropriate records to allow for effective monitoring and evaluation.

10To take up TEDS provision for support, supervision and training and to participate in all relevant meetings.

11To undertake other reasonable duties as requested, but which may not be specified within the job description.
