One of the hardest working bands in the south east of London, the Los Dawsons are an amplified acoustic band. “It’s strange,” reflects Mike Dearing, the ‘Dawsons, vocalist, guitarist and harmonica player. “I think we were born too late. We belong in a different time. We play a really diverse range of songs — blues, jazz, country, Latin and modern pop — but it’s all got this old-style stamp: two acoustic guitars, acoustic bass and, for larger gigs, percussion inspired drums. We can play anywhere. We’ve played at the British Library and Savills Court in Old Windsor , for large audiences and outdoor festivals, but we’re just as happy in someone’s front room, a barbeque, bar mitzvah, restaurant, wherever!”

Last summer alone the Los Dawsons have played in three Greenwich “Picnic in the Parks”, a rock festival in Kent, at Oxleas Woods in Eltham, numerous private parties, even a wedding ceremony at the Greenwich Naval College. Then there’s their bi-weekly residency at Cattleya at Chu & Cho’s in Charlton, London, and regular residency at the Pelton Arms in Greenwich.

Endorsed by Glenn Tilbrook Squeezes frontman and Nine Below Zero’s Dennis Greaves and Mark Feltham, who often sit in with the band, the quartet includes Mike Dearing, Spanish and bottleneck guitarist Dave Burrluck, double bassist Ben Hillyard and Drummer Dana Myzer..

So, if you like Billie Holiday, Blondie, Ray Charles, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Freddie King or even Dean Martin, you’ll hear it all, and a lot more, during an evening with the Los Dawsons.

“I urge you… make an effort to get down to see Los Dawsons.” The Greenwich Phantom 2008
