NUECES COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT RESOLUTION

“Dr. D. Scott Elliff – An Exceptional Career Educating Our Community”

WHEREAS, Dr. D. Scott Elliff, a life long resident of Nueces County, began his career in education in 1982 as a 4th grade teacher at Prescott Elementary School, and has also served CCISD as a teacher, curriculum developer, administrator for student services, director for public affairs and governmental relations and was most recently appointed Superintendent of Schools in May 2007; and,

WHEREAS, in 1997, Dr. Elliff left the District to become a senior consultant with the Panasonic Foundation, working with urban superintendents and school boards in the Seattle, WA, Columbus, OH, and Tampa, FL areas, and in 2004, he was named founding executive director of Citizens for Educational Excellence, a non-profit affiliate of the Public Education Network and returned to CCISD in 2005 as Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, a position he held until his appointment as Superintendent of Schools; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Elliff has served on the Governing Board of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), Commissioner's Cabinet of Superintendents, and the TASA Legislative Committee, has chaired the Texas Urban Council of Superintendents, and in 2011, Dr. Elliff was named Region 2 Superintendent of the Year; and,

WHEREAS, Dr. Elliff’s notable accomplishments are many, including being instrumental in the establishment of the Collegiate High School, a successful early college program, in obtaining the federal magnet grant that allowed the district to operate the Metro Schools of Design; further, he founded the office of high school completion at Coles High School and Operation Keep Every Youth in School, both of which resulted in dramatic decreases in school dropouts and increases in graduations.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMISSIONERS COURT OF NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS, hereby congratulates Dr. Scott Elliff on his significant contributions to the education of our community and further requests the citizens of Nueces County to join the Court in recognizing Dr. Elliff on his many accomplishments and stellar career in educating the citizens of Nueces County.
