  • ASUN approved Senate Bill #24 re. creation of Smoke Free Policy for UNLas of 3/15/17
  • Next Steps: Review/Research policy design, implementation, enforcement, best practices. Design preliminary policy. Meet/discuss with UNL community players. Make recommendation.

  • Committee Plan: Kim will write letter in support of Smoke Free Campus for the committee and submit. UCH representative, Nancy O., will look into resources UHC could offer for smoking sessation: classes? EAP? Counseling? Gail will look into the benefits and coverage by insurance for tobacco cessation products. Hailey will contact state of NE Tobacco Cessation to see what resources they have available for additional use.
  • High Risk Behavior Committee Update: Skipped in this meeting due to time
  • Building Healthier Academic Communities: Kim B. will be attending conference on National program as the university wide representative on April 5-7th. Some of the main sessions she will attend are listed below: big focus on the first and third one for this committee and its growth. Kim would like to have many others attend the conference with her in the future and grow the committee.

  • Using Healthy Campus 2020 as Framework to move forward
  • Discussion: Can HRA be more of a commitment by staff? Could we offer benefits? Kim provided “Brainstorm: Campus and Community Assets” handout to discuss potential options/ideas. Discussed use of NE150 Challenge and EveryMove Challenge to engage more faculty/staff. Plan to complete a push for physical activity month in May. What makes an individual compete physical activity? The difference between the words physical activity and work out? What are the positives/negatives associated with physical activity? Plan: Try to brainstorm more ideas and possibly develop video for the web featuring departments on campus showing exceptional wellness.
