CSD 633: Current Topics in CSD Research
Spring 2005 Syllabus
Prerequisites: Formal acceptance into the M.A. program in Communication Sciences and Disorders or permission of instructor.
For Whom Planned: Required course for speech-language pathology students in the UNCG CSD MA program.

Student Learning Outcomes: (Std. III-F)
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- Discuss the UNCG IRB process
- Synthesize relevant research literature
- Design an appropriate research proposal
- Discuss strengths and weakness of research designs
- Demonstrate appropriate technical writing styles
- Demonstrate appropriate professional presentation style
Teaching Strategies:Multiple strategies incorporating direct instruction, collaborative learning groups, peer teaching, group discussion, student guided problem solving session.
Evaluation Methods (100 points total)
- Revision of literature review (20 %). Each student will revise the previously completed literature review based on class discussion, writing editorial comments from the instructor and from the research advisor (SLO #2, 5)
- IRB forms completion (20%): Each student will complete all components of an IRB form, using the UNCG online process and format. (SLO # 1,2,3)
- Written research proposal (20%): Each student will complete a written research proposal (Introduction, Literature Review and Methods) on the topic of choice in consultation with the course instructor and research advisor (SLO # 3,4,5)
- Poster presentation of proposal (20%): Students will present their research proposal in a professional poster format. Posters will be available to UNCG faculty, students and members of the public. At a designated time, the students will be available to discuss their posters with attendees. Handouts must be available (SLO #2,3,6)
- Class participation (20%): Students will actively participate in all group projects as well as online and classroom discussions. (all SLOs)
