●Minutes - Went over last meeting minutes from April’s meeting 2015

Ellie- Motioned to accept meeting minutes from April's Meeting. Mayra Hernandez and Yvette Munoz accepted minutes.

Larry Rodriguez - Gave information on how to become a PAC member and what being a member entails. Question: Who would like to become a member?

3.Discussion Items

●Student Leadership: Ellie Ross

- Gave information in regards to Close-Up Washington DC Trip.

- Talked about the New Ambassadors Club and what that entails

●Counseling: Larry Rodriguez and Terry Ortiz

- Larry gave information on Direction Connection trips: October 15ht St. Edwards University Trip. Open to juniors and seniors. Gave info on C.A.M.P that will fund a student up to 5 years to finish their bachelor's degree. Question: What the best test for the student to take before entering college. Answer: The best test for St. Edwards would be the ACT versus the SAT. ACT is a little more flexible. Question: Granddaughters are both 10th graders, and are wanting to attend a CAMP program. Do they have to attend St. Edward's or can they attend another school where CAMP is offered. Answer: They can attend any campus that CAMP is offered.

Direction Connections Event: November 17th for all high school students. Northwest Vista College and Texas Biomedical research institute. Students will get to talk to different people who work at the research center and get to talk with them to find out what type of degree is needed to obtain that type of job. Question: Will students be excused for that trip? Answer: Yes excuse will be given for that day. Student will turn that in the next day to school.

Question: Do we have parent education programs? Answer: We will get parents info and direct them to correct department.

Terry: Gave information on how students can obtain a waiver to take college entry exams. Students need to speak to counselors as soon as possible and start scheduling date to take ACT/SAT.

- Larry: Talked about the planners/agenda and thumb drives that are given to students to help them keep organize.

- Ellie introduced Mr. Casillas with Community First

●Tutoring Services: Rachel Morales - Project SMART information

- Last year’s goals: Increase the number of students who begin services and increase the number who complete post assessment

- Showed which school districts who participated in Project SMART

- Data of Project SMART for 2014 and 2015

- Handout given to all parents giving them information on how tutoring is provided to students.

Question: Would my daughter who is in 6th grade who has not passed one of her STAAR assessment qualify as a PFS tutoring student? Answer: They would have had to fail two or more assessments or education was interrupted due to a move.

●Survey Results: Ellie Ross

- Do we want to stay with same time and place as current meetings?

Results: Keep the same as meetings are held as of now.

- Proposal: Would parents mind having meeting at Food Bank for Novembers meetings? Parents agreed YES to have November the 18th meeting at the Food Bank.

●Parent Conferences: AMET November 11-13

●Presentations: Larry Rodriguez - College Readiness

Angela Glover - Worker Rights

- Gave presentation on labor rights (PowerPoint)

Andres Perez - Immigration Lawyers: (PowerPoint) Question: Cousinwho’s mom was born in the us, went to work in Mexico, cousin was born in Mexico. Would he be able to return to US? Answer: Depending on the circumstances. Would have to speak with family to gather additional information.

Question: Can children petition for parents? Answer: Yes but child would have to 21 years old not 18.

Question: Can I help my brother fix his papers if I’m a citizen? Answer: You can but it is a very long process and a very long waiting period around 18 to 20 years.
