Berwick & DistrictSchool Band Parents Association – What is it?

“The primary purpose is to provide and support activities of the Berwick & District School Band in every reasonable manner.” The support may consist of assisting to provide uniforms, transportation and other requirements that are not available through other sources: encouraging and assisting young instrumentalists in their goals and objectives. In addition to carrying out fund-raising events, the association supports emotionally by attending concerts and festivals and listening to the practice of instruments at home. It supports mentally by providing a new challenge for learning. The experience of mastering an instrument is positive for anyone’s self-esteem. The association also supports the band members in their development as citizens as they travel and learn how to meet new people and relate to them.

“An active member of this association shall be any parent or guardian of a boy or girl in the instrumental classes in Berwick & DistrictSchool.” The above purpose and definition of a member are taken directly from the Association’s bylaws.

Commitment of each band family:

To achieve the goals of the Berwick & District School Band Parents Association, participation in fundraising is necessary.

Several annual fundraising events are established and parents registering their children for band have the opportunity to work at these events (approximately 12 hours for one student, 20 hours for two students, or 30 hours for three students) to fulfill their commitment. If you are not interested in this option, you may make a cash contribution ($120.00 for one student, $200.00 for two students, or $300.00 for three students). On registration night, the job lists for the fundraisers will be available for you to sign- up.

Any questions regarding this should be directed to Karen Maiholz at 670-6485

Band Fee

A band fee is charged to all band students in the fall. It is to cover the cost of maintaining and repairing the instruments and is charged by the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board. This fee has nothing to do with the budget of the Band Association. Please see over 
