Did Ellen White become a Trinitarian?
Trinitarians claim that Ellen White had become a Trinitarian by the time she wrote the Desire Of Ages which was finished in 1895 and yet this book is full of non-Trinitarian statements. A handful of misunderstood Ellen White quotes that LeRoy Froom searched for are used to try and prove this. In any case, does Ellen White agree with this claim? No she does not. This first quote was written 11 years after 1895.
“And now, after half a century of clear light from the Word as to what is truth, there are arising many false theories, to unsettle minds. But the evidence given in our early experience has the same force that it had then. The truth is the same as it ever has been, and not a pin or a pillar can be moved from the structure of truth. That which was sought for out of the Word in 1844, 1845, and 1846 remains the truth today in every particular.” — (E.G. White, Letter 38, 1906)
It was in this three year period that the Pillars of our Faith were established. So more than 11 years after she supposedly became a Trinitarian, she states that the truths established in these years remained the same in every way still in 1906. So this is a declaration from her that the non-Trinitarian view they held in this period is still truth in every particular.
Ellen White wrote this next one at least ten years after it was claimed she had become a Trinitarian.
“That which I have written is what the Lord has bidden me write. I have not been instructed to change that which I have sent out. I stand firm in the Adventist faith; for I have been warned in regard to the seducing sophistries that will seek for entrance among us as a people. The Scripture says, 'Some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.' I present before our people the danger of being led astray as were the angels in the heavenly courts. The straight line of truth presented to me when I was but a girl is just as clearly presented to me now.” — (E.G. White, Review and Herald, January 26, 1905)
And further she states that new truths only made more significant the old. New truths never contradicted the old in other words. She says this many times and in many ways. Ellen White wrote non-Trinitarian statements all the way to her death.
“The leading points of our faith as we hold them today were firmly established. Point after point was clearly defined, and all the brethren came into harmony. The whole company of believers were united in the truth. There were those who came in with strange doctrines, but we were never afraid to meet them. Our experience was wonderfully established by the revelation of the Holy Spirit.” — (E.G. White, Manuscript 135, 1903)
“That which was truth in the beginning is truth now. Although new and important truths appropriate for succeeding generations have been opened to the understanding, the present revealings do not contradict those of the past. Every new truth understood only makes more significant the old.” — (E.G. White, Review and Herald, March 2, 1886)
