Job Description

Job title: Assistant Youth Worker

Location: Ardoyne Youth Club

Responsible to: Leader In Charge / Assistant Leader in Charge

Hours: Between 5 to 8 hours per week. Will require a flexible working pattern which will include regular evening/weekend work.

Job Summary:

Ardoyne Youth has available a number of Assistant Youth Support Worker post’s. Reporting directly to the Leader in charge, the post holder will be responsible for the following:

•  recruitment of project participants

•  co ordination of activities and programmes within the project

•  facilitating non accredited elements of the project

•  supporting the ongoing consultation of beneficiaries.

Duties and responsibilities

1. To work directly with various organisations to establish partnership working.

3. To work with young people from a range of backgrounds and with a range of needs.

4. Effectively communicate at all levels, orally and in writing.

5. To provide work alongside other team members and provide guidance and support to young leaders and volunteers.

6. To attend training and development events where required.

7. To be able to work from own initiative including being flexible to meet the needs of the young people.

8. To work alongside Youth Workers, Volunteers, Young Leaders and facilitators to deliver activities.

9. To promote cultural cohesion and inclusion, and proactively challenge any prejudice and discrimination.

10. To ensure the participation of young people in activities and that their ideas contribute fully in the delivery and evaluation of activities.

11. To understand and adhere to Ardoyne Youth Club’s policies and procedures at all times with particular emphasis on equal opportunities, health and safety and safeguarding.

12. To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times.

13. To monitor, record and evaluate sessions in accordance with Ardoyne Youth Club systems.

14. To be an active member of the team and operate in line with Ardoyne Youth Club’s values and principles.

15. To promote a positive image of Ardoyne Youth Club through your work with children and young people.

General

Participate in staff training and development activities to update and enhance knowledge, skills and competence required to fulfil the role in full.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria:

Experience

1.  Two Years experience of Working in a Youth Work Setting.

2.  Experience of leading and working with groups of young people 8-25 by way of developing their educational needs.

3.  Experience of working in a team and alongside volunteers.

4.  Experience of working in an outreach or detached setting.

5.  Must be over 18.

Knowledge

5.  An understanding of the community of Ardoyne and North Belfast area and the environment in which they operate in.

Skills and Abilities

6.  Facilitation and group work skills.

7.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing for internal and external audiences.

8.  Ability to prepare and deliver briefing/information events.

General

9.  Willingness to work unsociable hours at times and to attend evening and weekend meetings / residential activities as appropriate.

10. Experience of working with young people from diverse backgrounds and with challenging needs.

11. Experience of working with children and young people who are disaffected, underachieving and or have social/emotional barriers to participation.
