Mla Greek Mythology Research Poster Project
Description:
This project is focused on learning MLA formatting while determining how Greek mythology appears in literature and how it is still prevalent in our culture today. You will be presenting your findings about a Greek god/ goddess, creature or hero on a poster to the class as well as producing an MLA formatted works cited page.
Directions:
Your job is to research a Greek god/ goddess, creature or hero, create a poster based on the information you find during your research that details the myth surrounding that god or goddess and find three (or more) words or phrases that are derived from that god or goddess.
Quick Project Breakdown:
1. Using our school library, find at least 3 sources of information about your Greek god/ goddess, creature or hero. ***At least 1 must be a book source!
a. Book sources
i. Unabridged dictionary
ii. Encyclopedia Britannica or Compton’s Encyclopedia
iii. 1 library book (use the card catalog!)
b. Online sources
i. Encyclopedia Britannica or Compton’s Encyclopedia online encyclopedia
ii. Encyclopedia Mythica online encyclopedia
iii. Website of your choice:

2. Create a works cited entry for each (use the note sheets provided on my website!)

4. Take notes on each source
a. Find at least 3 quotes (1 from each source) to use on your poster.
b. Take notes on the following:
- Name of character
- Thorough background information about the character. (parents? siblings? married? Where is he/she from? Where does he/she live?)
- Special talents, skills, or traits (god of moon, strong, beautiful, ...)
- Weaknesses or areas that cause trouble for the character (love weakness, liar, etc)
5. Create a poster to present your research to the class

Description:
This part of the project is focused on presenting your findings on a poster to the class in an effective and concise manner.
Directions:
Your job is to use your research to write a short speech (2 minute maximum!) in order to quickly present your god/goddess/hero/creature to the class. You must also create a poster that will accompany your speech.
Poster Guidelines:
· Dimensions:
o Standard poster board size (Approximately 22” X 28”)
§ 3 for $1 at the local dollar store
§ ≈ $0.40 at Target
· MUST be:
o NEAT!
o Colorful
o 100% spelled correctly
· Required Elements:
o Your god/goddess/hero/creature’s name
§ Large enough to be seen across the room
o A visual representation of your god/goddess/hero/creature
§ Can be a picture or a symbol
o The 3 words derived from your god/goddess/hero/creature’s name
§ Large enough to be seen across the room
· DO NOT include:
o Paragraphs
§ Short captions are ok!

o What are they god/goddess of OR what was their purpose
o Brief family history
· In your own words, retell a myth about your character
· Words derived from him/her/it
· Be prepared to answer a few questions about your character
