Information on subject choice for the IBDP 2015 at FKG

Registration for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme requires:

  1. Choice of one subject out of each subject group (except for Gr. 6)
  2. Meeting the requirements for CAS (Creativity Action Service)
  3. Submission of an Extended Essay
  4. Meeting the requirements for Theory of Knowledge

 1: Three subjects must be selected at Higher Level (HL), three at Standard Level (SL). For the IB Diploma to be used for application to a university in Germany, the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education (Kultusministerkonferenz) has decided that the second language must at least be a B language at HL, and either mathematics or one of the experimental sciences at HL. Visual Art can be replaced by another subject from groups one, two or four.

If a German student wants to attain the “Latinum”, he or she will have to do so in a course of the normal school system (Qualifikationsstufe), if the timetable allows. Any such subject not taken under the conditions of the IBDP cannot count for the Diploma.

French B, Spanish B and English B will only be offered if there are enough participants to justify the running of such a course. If such a choice should become necessary in spite of small numbers of students, it could only be realized by parents financing the course.

Maths, Visual Art, Chemistry and Biology will be taught in combined HL/SL courses, with three weekly lessons for HL and SL and two extra lessons for HL. Details are agreed on between the course teacher and the learning group.

Geography and History on the one hand and Visual Art and Physics will be placed in the same timeslot. Thus, in these cases the choice is Geography or History, respectively Visual Art or Physics.

Further information can be obtained from the school’s website under the menu item “InternationalSchool”. More information on important topics such as CAS, TOK, the Extended Essay, Academic Honesty and others will be provided after the subject choice has been completed.

Newly registering students at FKGshould become enrolled in the school soon after the choice has been finalized. Please make an appointment and bring

  • a copy of the student’s birth certificate,
  • (copies of) the latest two report cards (with official explanations for reading and understanding them in English or German),
  • for German students, the report card of year 10 second semester (erweiterter Sek-I-Abschluss), for foreign students equivalent certificates such as the IGCSE or GCSE, or other national certificates after grade 10.
  • a list of all schools attended so far (with times of attendance: month/year)

The number of participants is limited.
