Overall Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, The Director of Fundraising will lead the Fundraising Team to deliver against current income targets, as well as devising and implementing The Eve Appeal’s Fundraising Strategy 2010-2015 in order to significantly grow the charity’s incomeover this period, using an integrated approach to fundraising and supporter development.

As a pivotal member of the Senior Management Team the postholder will support work in strategy, planning, governance and finance to help deliver organisational objectives.

Key Relationships

  • Manages high level external relationships on behalf of The Eve Appeal
  • Manages the charity’s Development Board to deliver Fundraising Targets and maximise opportunities for income growth
  • Works alongside the Senior Management Team on organisational matters.
  • Attends quarterly Board of Trustee and other committee meetings
  • Liaises with Senior Research staff on project information and funding needs
  • Works with staff across all levels of the organisation

Key Responsibilities

Devise and implement the charity’s Fundraising Strategy 2010-2015.

Double The Eve Appeal’s annual income by 2015 to £3m pa

Manage income generation from Corporate Fundraising, Community Fundraising, Individual Giving, Membership, and Trust Fundraising.

Directly generate income from Major Donor and Special Events Fundraising and Key Partnerships.

Develop the charity’s major donor and high level supporter portfolio.

Explore and establish new areas of income generation to complement the existing strengths of the charity.

Develop and implement effective direct mail campaigns to generate income through individual giving.

Manage the Development Board to ensure that all existing and potential fundraising activities and opportunities are maximised.

Manage donor care strategies across each fundraising stream relevant to the target audience to enable effective stewardship of The Eve Appeal’s supporters.

Manage all key external fundraising relationships and partnerships.

Ensure both progression and acquisition of active supporters.

Manage the creation of annual supporter communication strategies ensuring each communication is delivered on time.

Oversee the use and maintenance of the Fundraising Database with particular emphasis on appropriate storage of donor information to enable effective stewardship of all supporters.

Develop appropriate systems and structure to enable effective fundraising.

Report on a monthly basis on progress of annual planned income and expenditure and other key performance indicators, actively managing variances.

Ensure that Fundraising Staff are supported, developed, managed and led by managing direct reports and ensuring effective line management systems are in place for indirect reports.

Input into and attendance at quarterly Trustee Meetings and committee meetingsWork with the CEO and Head of Finance to accurately develop budgets, forecasts and accounts across all fundraising streams.

Ensure the most cost effective delivery of income.

Represent The Eve Appeal at external presentations and meetings.

Work with the Senior Management Team on day to day organisational planning to ensure the smooth running of the charity.

Work with the research team to develop internal research information, generate funding reports and identify funding need and potential funding opportunities.

To deputise for the CEO as requested.

Skills and Experience

Essential

Significant experience of Corporate, Individual Giving and Major Donor fundraising.

Significant management experience of a multi-disciplinary fundraising team.

Experience of developing and implementing a successful fundraising strategy.

Experience of implementing a successful donor develop strategy.

Demonstrable experience of achieving targets and income growth.

Experience of working at a Senior Management Level including working with a board of trustees.

Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to negotiate with, influence and engage senior and wealthy individuals.

Experience of developing and implementing robust monitoring and evaluation processes and tools.

Desirable

Significant experience of Community, Trusts and Special Event fundraising.

Experience of working within the cancer/health sector.

Experience with Governance and HR issues.

Understanding of cancer/ health policy.

Experience fundraising for research.
