The Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Foundation, Inc.

Job Posting

Position: Program Officer – Education

Employment type: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Location: New York, NY

Job Summary:

The Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Foundation (PCLB) is seeking a Program Officer to support the overall work of The PCLB Foundation’s Education sector. PCLB’s education grant-making is rooted in the belief that all kids deserve access to a great public education, one which prepares them to succeed in college and in life. We currently fund three pieces of work which we believe critical to these ends:

§  Charter schools: Charter schools provide the framework – combining operational freedoms and accountability – in which principals and teachers have the opportunity to create and run great schools. PCLB therefore funds the growth and operation of high-performing charter schools in New York City and Connecticut.

§  Advocacy: Strong public policies foster and support great public schools. PCLB is particularly interested in ensuring that schools are funded in a rational way. PCLB therefore funds organizations that advocate for effective education policy and practices.

§  People quality: Great principals and teachers are, ultimately, the most important factors in students’ education. PCLB therefore funds programs that recruit and train high-quality school staff.

While believing each of these elements important in providing students with great schools, PCLB continues to seek additional strategies for speeding the pace at which we improve public education for all kids.
