Advanced Drawing and PaintingMrs. Killmore
Posterized Painting
This project entails;
- Learning how to mix paint and create accurate color mixture
- Learning Photoshop basics
- Learn how to posterize a painting or how to break down and image to smaller parts
- Design pattern
- Learn composition
Steps
- Take a picture with digital camera that captures you as you see yourself. Be creative! Students who take images other than a traditional straight on shot will be given extra points. Ideas;
- Try using a non traditional light source maybe to light your face from the bottom
- May be your picture will be a reflection not an actual photo of yourself
- Do you need to see your whole face?
- Could there be objects in the image tat show some art of your personality?
- Think out of the box!
- Download image to computers and start editing the image.
- Crop image
- Play with image adjust brightness and contrast
- Posterize image by going to image adjust posterize (select a # between 3- 8)
- Play with filters
- Play with image adjust hue and saturation
- Design a pattern for your back ground (stars, dots, stripes, etc).
Students who are inventive will be given higher points than students who just settle for what the computer spits out. Remember you are an artist Photoshop is a tool, don’t count on it to do all your work.
- Once you have determined what you want you can print out the image for projection. The image should not be too large as it will not fit board and projection unit. Usually a 5X7 image is pretty good.
- Get a acetate transparency sheet (clear plastic paper) from a box on my desk. And also you will need a micron pen. Tape sheet to image and begin tracing areas you will paint.
- When you are finished ask me for a board place transparency on the overhead and begin tracing to board using a pencil. Do this lightly!
- TIPDo this during one class period. It is very hard to set up overhead the same way two days in a row. Get some one to help you if you think you will need it
- Once you have your tracing you can begin mixing colors for your painting. I encourage you to mix large quantity’s as it is very hard to remix a color once it is gone and you will need several layers.
- Begin painting. If you made dark lines while tracing begin by erasing your lines so they are visible but light.
- Every surface of the board will need to be covered. If you want white you must paint it!
Due date: most of you will need this whole marking period. I reserve the right to change the date based on your work habits. IE. you work hard I will extend the date if necessary, you slack off I may shorten the due time It’s up to you!
