Position:Educational Coordinator

Reports to:Manager, Lalor Living & Learning Centre Inc.

Location:Lalor Living & Learning Centre Inc., 47A French St, Lalor 3075

Time Fraction:0.4EFT (15 hours, may be worked over multiple days)

Employment Mode:12 month initial contract(review after 3 months)

Pay & Conditions:Range of $29.00 - $30.97 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus leave and superannuation entitlements as per NHACE Agreement 2010, Adult and Community Education Employees.

About the Organisation

Lalor Living & Learning Centre Inc (LLLC) is a community based not-for-profit adult education provider. We are a Registered Training Organisation (TOID 3902) offering nationally accredited courses, an ACFE funded pre-accredited programprovider and a Neighbourhood House. We have been offering many different activities and classes for members of the community for over 27 years. This welcoming, friendly and professional Centre provides activities that focus on adult education, in particular English as anAdditional Language, computers and general education for adults. The Centre is very supportive of learners of all ages from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and also offers occasional childcare and after school tutoring.The Centre’s small administrative team work collaboratively on projects and tasks across responsibility areas.

About the Role

Working in close partnership with the Manager and other staff, the Educational Coordinator willprovide leadership and mentoring within our adult education programs, consistent with the values and objectives of the organisation.

Key Focus 1- Develop the quality of the learning experience, which includes:

1.1 Mentoring adult education teaching staff

  • identify & facilitate professional development needs, opportunities and resources
  • participate in the organisation’s professional progression process
  • participate in teacher recruitment
  • participate in regular Teacher/Trainer/RTO meetings

1.2Monitoring teaching quality

  • coordinate maintenance of delivery planning documents
  • maintain knowledge of accredited curricula
  • coordinate assessment activity, including coordinating validation and moderation

1.3 Interacting with students

  • develop understanding of student cohort
  • seek and respond to student feedback

1.4 Coordinating special events, including

  • Student Certification & Celebration Day
  • Harmony Day
  • guest speakers
  • excursions

Key Focus 2 - Monitor relevant administrative processes for compliance to regulatory and funding bodies, which includes:

2.1 Maintaining up to date knowledge of communications and requirements from

  • Department of Education (including HESG & ACFE)
  • student administration & reporting systems (VETtrak, SVTS)
  • VRQA (ASQA)
  • other regulatory bodies

2.2 Monitoringstudent records management and student files for quality and timeliness

  • enrolment
  • assessment records
  • evidence of participation

2.3 Monitoring the organisation’s Continuous Improvement Register

  • maintain records in response to other processes
  • coordinate action as required
  • liaise with Manager

Key Focus 3 - Develop adult education programs to be delivered on or off site, which includes:

3.1 Participation in adult education delivery planning

  • developing courses and programs
  • annual planning
  • showing initiative

3.2 Liaising with potential partners

  • job services agencies (JSA)
  • employers
  • other providers & community organisations

3.3Identifying & scoping needs

  • consult with employers, JSA’s
  • community consultation, including City of Whittlesea & data sources
  • student satisfaction surveys

3.4 Supporting promotional activities

  • student recruitment, including enrolment processes
  • community events and expos

Additional Elements

4.1 Reporting relationships

  • the Educational Coordinator reports directly to the Manager
  • the Educational Coordinator has no direct reports
  • the Educational Coordinator works closely with the administration teamand will be active in supporting compliance with regulatory and funding requirements in conjunction with the team

4.2 The role requires some flexibility in terms of days/hours worked in order to attend relevant meetings and activities.

4.3 It is intended that the role in future will develop into a permanent position with a mutually revised and expanded role description which may include direct responsibility for teaching staff, business development and increased hours.

Skills, Knowledge & Attributes

The applicant must have:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) including LLN unit
  • Experience in delivering adult education, particularly foundation skills
  • A relevantbachelor degree
  • Knowledge of the VET sector and Victorian regulatory & funding systems
  • Leadership and mentoring experience
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also with independent initiative

And could also have:

  • A post-graduate TESOL qualification is highly desirable
  • Experience delivering Certificates in Spoken & Written English, Certificates in General Education for Adults or Information Technology is desirable
