JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
ASSISTANT CO-ORDINATOR POST
Job Description
Principle Duties
1 To assist the project co-ordinator to facilitate a young person’s group to run on one evening each week.
2 To assist in developing a programme and range of activities at the youth group – as directed by the Executive Committee.
3 To develop and lead activities as required including day trips & residential breaks during school holidays.
Other Duties and Tasks
1 To deal with correspondence and telephone calls on behalf of the Executive committee.
2 To order stationary, supplies and resources for the club.
3 To adhere to and observe the financial controls and procedures as agreed by the Executive Committee.
4 To adhere to the Child Protection Policy and to report any concerns to the appointed officer.
5 To distribute publicity material and disseminate information about NIYP to relevant young people and agencies who may be in contact with them.
6 To assist with the recruitment and screening of potential volunteers/support workers.
7 To assist with training of volunteers/helpers of the group where appropriate.
8 To explore funding and fundraising opportunities and to submit applications for funding.
9 To maintain statistics and records as appropriate and to produce a quarterly activity report.
10 To attend the club weekly.
11 To meet with the volunteers on a regular basis to evaluate progress and explore issues.
12 To represent the NIYP organisation at various conferences throughout the UK.
13 To advocate on behalf of unaccompanied minors in the public sector.
14 To facilitate regular feedback sessions with the young people in order to address their needs and to develop appropriate programming (the project is based on a participatory model).
15 Weekly interaction with asylum seeking children and the wider refugee community.
16 Any other duties as may be deemed appropriate by the Executive Committee.

Previous experience of working with young people / E

Knowledge and experience of writing grant applications / D

Awareness of discrimination issues / E
Should hold a further Education qualification relevant to this post / E

Conversant with or willing to develop knowledge of Human Rights legislation and the UNCRC / E
Awareness of issues relating to confidentiality and data protection / E
Understanding of appropriate professional boundaries / E
Experience of working with different cultures either overseas of in the UK / E
Computer literate / E
Understanding of issues around the asylum process / D
