Enrollment Management for Student Success
The mission of the Enrollment Management Committee is to provide vision and leadership in the strategic planning and assessment of our institutional processes for student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and student success. To that end four committees were formed: Retention, Advising, Recruitment, and Technology. Each of the committees is made up of a chair person and multiple team members from across campus. The committees have spent the last two semesters working with their team members to establish a baseline of information with which to work. Several of the committees completed surveys with students, faculty, and department chairs. Each committee was asked for a list of recommendations they believe will help recruit, retain, and in general improve student success at CSI.
The Retention Committee, chaired by Jerod Opsal, made the following recommendations:
· Develop and implement a mandatory new student orientation for in-coming students. The orientation would be available in an online version as well as presentation format. The goal would be to have an optional online version available this fall.
· Evaluate the day financial aid forms are due. Is it possible that by setting an earlier date for priority, we could encourage students to enroll prior to the start of school?
· Move the last day to drop classes earlier in the semester to encourage students’ commitment and be more accountable.
· Work to establish a consistent grading policy with regards to F vs. W vs. I.
· Consider an application fee in an effort to encourage pride in our incoming students.
We can also thank the Retention Committee for the great posters visible around campus that have encouraged students to register early.
The Advising Committee, chaired by George Halsall, made the following recommendations:
· Evaluate and possibly change their mission statement to reflect their role in Enrollment Management.
· They also came forward with a recommendation that all new CSI students attend or participate in some type of new student orientation.
· Gail Schull made a presentation on “MyCSI” as and advising tool. The committee was impressed with the number of features on the site they weren’t aware of. They felt many faculty could benefit from such a presentation and recommended all faculty have a hands-on “MyCSI” training.
The Recruitment Committee, chaired by Jamie Shetler, made the following recommendations:
· Develop an institutional marketing plan that can provide a process map for recruitment efforts.
· Develop data driven, audience specific marketing.
· Establish a centralized process for campus publications. After reviewing numerous publications, the committee felt there was little or no consistency among campus publications.
· Enhanced collaboration among campus departments. Timely reports detailing prospect students and admitted students must be provided to departments chairs on a regular basis.
· Hire a Marketing Director
The Technology Committee, Chaired by Rosa Davila, made the following recommendations:
· The main data base system on campus, Jenzabar, does not have a defined system administrator. The use of the system impacts numerous aspects of campus and all areas of enrollment management. The committee recommends the creation of a system administrator position.
· There are three main offices/programs on campus that deal with technology: Instructional Technology (ITC), Information Technology Systems (ITS), and Information Technology (IT) programs. Although some of the activities of these programs/offices overlap at times, they have very distinct functions on campus. This information is not necessarily known on campus. The committee recommends orientation to both faculty and students as to the difference between these offices and procedures to follow when technology questions arise.
· Conduct a student survey related to student use of technology.
· The computer help desk available on campus is currently to be used exclusively by faculty and staff. The committee recommends the creation of a student help desk.
What now? The Steering Committee will present the recommendations to the President’s Council for discussion and consideration. A list of goals, initiatives, and action items will be developed from the recommendations. Some of the action items will begin over the summer others in the fall. Thanks to the work of the dedicated chairs and team members our Strategic Enrollment Management plan is beginning to take shape and develop a momentum of its own.

My wife and I are recent graduates of the University of Idaho, and, as native Southern Idahoans, are glad to be back in the area. I received my Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and my wife received her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. I will be serving as the grant writer for the Office of Planning & Development here on campus, and my wife is currently the Sophomore English teacher at Kimberly High School. Both my wife and I enjoy traveling, particularly taking cruises. We don’t have any children, but we have two cats which are spoiled beyond belief. I’m very excited about joining the staff at the College of Southern Idaho, and I look forward to sharing in, and contributing to, the continued success of the College.

Hello: I have been working at the Office on Aging part-time and now I will be working full-time. Besides working at the office, I help take care of farm animals. My mother and I have full-size beef cows, horses, sheep, and goats. One miniature donkey, one miniature horse, several pygmy goats, and Shetland sheep reside at the farm also.
To those of you who I have met, I have finished my bachelor’s degree. I do not know if I am going to stop with school or not.

I was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Twin Falls some 25 years ago. I have a beautiful 21 year old daughter, Ashley, who is pregnant with her first child. She is due October 2007. I choose not to be called “Grandma” or “Nana” but would like to be referred to as “Mother, Part Two.” Ashley has been the light of my life. I was a very, very involved parent while Ashley was growing up as well as taking care of my elderly parents. But, now it is MY TIME to enjoy life. For the first time in 21 years, I have no child or ailing parents to care for and I must admit that it feels wonderful. I feel like a kid who’s been allowed to stay home alone, with no parents, for the first time. I am a huge sports nut and love playing Fantasy Football. I am a Laker and a Dodger fan. In addition, I love to watch golf, NASCAR and Indy Racing. I am a dog lover. I raised Long-Haired Dachshunds in the past also have a Basset Hound named Natalie.
In 1992, I graduated from CSI with an A.S. in Biology. I transferred to ISU to pursue a degree in Microbiology, but had to put my B.S. on hold due to demanding parenting responsibilities. I would like to complete my degree. I am happy to be back at CSI now as an employee. Although there have been many improvements/changes to the campus, it still fells like home. What a wonderful place to work. I love the Idaho Small Business Development Center staff as well as The Business Dept staff who I also work very closely with. Everyone has been so kind, patient and understanding knowing how overwhelming the start of a new job can be.
