John 10:10

Prelude

*The Call to Worship (responsively)

Risen, reigning Christ, in you, past, present and future are brought together into one great hope.

Today we renew our faith in you, Lord God; so that neither the past may hinder us, the present overwhelm us or the future frighten us.

Lord Jesus Christ, you have brought us this far through life through faith.

Continue to lead us until our hope is fulfilled, and we shall join all God’s people in songs of praise that will never end.

*Hymn of Praise “Fairest Lord, Jesus” (insert)

*The Prayer of Invocation (unison)

Eternal God: You love us with an everlasting love, and you alone can turn the shadow of death into morning. Help us now to wait upon you with reverent and believing hearts. Speak to us in these moments of eternal things, that, as You have prepared a place for us, You may also prepare us for that place. Through the comfort of the scriptures, may we have hope. May we be lifted above any distress into the light and joy of your presence; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PSALM FOR LIFE

Tell me not, in mournful numbers

Life is but an empty dream!

For the soul is dead that slumbers

And things are not what they seem.

Life is real, life is earnest

And the grave is not its goal.

Dust thou art, to dust returneth

Was not spoken of the soul.

Let us then be up and doing,

With a heart for any fate,

Still achieving, still pursuing,

Learn to labor and to wait.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This is my Father’s world, And to my listening ears All natures sings, and round me rings The music of the spheres. This

“FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND”

(Author unknown)

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and
