Chairs are NOT generally suppliedfrom the Community equipment store other than in exceptional circumstances and only with authorisation from the ILC and the Devon ‘Special equipment panel’

Service user MAY be eligible for a powered rise and recline chair from CES store following seating assessment:

If Service User cannot maintain seated posture in a standard chair with correct dimensions or a standard chair with additional support, and is at risk of falling out of their chair or at risk of developing skin damage due to postural problems in sitting.

And Service User meets Care Act Eligibility criteria.

Service user is NOT eligible for a powered rise and recline chair from CES store if one or more of the conditions below apply:

  • If the service user can support themselves sitting in a standard chair or seating support systems could be used to support good posture when seated on existing chair.
  • If the service user could consider private rental or purchase of a suitable chair.
  • If it is a sit to stand transfer issue and the need could be met with static raising equipment or the Macnish Chair Raiser. Service user must provide a suitable chair.
  • If legs need raising and there is access to a bed during the day or footstool could be used safely.
  • If equipment for bed transfers could be issued to facilitate transfers during the day or night for leg elevation.
  • If a bed is available and accessible during the night and the service user chooses to sleep in a chair.
  • If continence equipment or management could reduce need to transfer to and from bed during the night.
  • If service user is resident in a care home.

For private purchase or rental, ask ILC for local suppliers and buyer’s guide.

If eligible for provision,a recycled chair will be used whenever possible.
