Course Name / Technical Theatre
Course Description / Technical Theatre requires an active, creative student willing to work at a variety of tasks in a hands-on environment. Students will explore technical aspects of theatre including lighting, sound, costumes, set design, make-up, stage managing and marketing. Safety and responsibility are learned and are essential elements in this class. This is an advanced class and is recommended for the experienced theatre student.

General Expectations
·  Grades are based upon the demonstration of proficiency on units associated with a standard given during each formative or summative assessment. Formative grades in addition to summative unit assessments will be used to holistically determine your grade.
·  Summative: 80% Summative measures of achievement are taken when unit master is expected. (i.e., unit tests, culmination of a project, embedded assessments, etc.)
·  Formative: 20% Formative assessments measure the scaffolding skills and/or content embedded in the unit. Formative assessments are taken frequently, after a student has practiced a skill or become familiar with content. Examples of formative assessments include but are not limited to exit tickets, paragraphs, oral check for understanding, warm-ups, stages in a large project, etc.
·  Assessments will be graded based on teacher/district/state rubrics.
·  On group projects, students will receive a grade for individual work and a group grade.
·  Grades are based on achievement of Content Standards and Grade Level Expectations.
Class Expectations
Missing or incomplete assignments/assessments for this course: Superintendent Policies 6280 Homework and 6281 Make-Up Work, will be followed for this course.
Students are expected to display an appropriate level of respect in regards to their classmates, guest speakers and their teacher. Bullying or harassment, of any kind, will not be tolerated and will be dealt with according to Adams 12 School Board Policy.
Student Expectations
·  Students will be required to perform, write journal entries, constructed responses, and literary critiques. (It is critical that theatre students are able to use written language to critique, analyze, and discuss the theatre arts.) These benchmark papers are in direct support of the District 12, Language Arts Curriculum Framework and Standards.
·  Late assignments will be accepted until the end of the unit.
·  Students must attend intervention to receive credit for submitted late assignments.
·  Students cannot have any missing or incomplete Summative Assessments.
·  Students will be given the opportunity to retake and/or rewrite Formative/Summative Assessments.
·  Students will come to class prepared with necessary supplies, classroom materials and texts.
·  Students will comply with the Horizon Academic Honor Code as stated in the Horizon Student Handbook (p.5).
·  Students will comply with Superintendent Policy 5030 regarding use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices.
