Amendments to letter submitted to Ochre on 5 February 2015, post discussing with Monde Twala.
Dear Ochre Media,
Further to queries from cast and their agents for clarity relating to the provision of guidelines on what we will allow principal cast members to do outside their of their standard contracts, we are now pleased to provide to you our “Outside Work Restrictions and Guidelines Policy” for principal cast members of commissioned e.tv productions (“the policy”).
Our principal concern underlying the policy is that we protect our brand and prevent dilution of our investment in any commissioned production.
The key principal is that outside work should not be permitted where this will cause interference with their work/shooting schedule. Secondly, prior approval must be obtained from e.tv – requested via production house – before any such work is undertaken. The cast member concerned must obtain written consent from either the producer or e.tv directly.
The guidelines are:
PERMITTED OUTSIDE WORK:
- Movies
- Theatre plays
- MC-ing or hosting of public events including charity events (subject to approval, if there is a chance that it will be broadcast on broadcast platformsother than e.tv.)
- Radio work, including radio commercials
- International TV productions not for local broadcast platforms(subject to approval, if there is a chance that it will be broadcast on local platforms other than e.tv.)
- Local TV commercials and adverts (Subject to discussion and below approval.)
NOT PRMITTED:
- Other Local TV shows, sitcoms, dramas or soaps for other broadcasters.
- On screen political party endorsements.
- Online content/programming in the same genre(no mobi-soaps or drama). Comedy skits allowed.
- Print and outdoor advertising.
- Endorsements (unless the artist was signed on with the production with an endorsement contract already in place. E.tv needs to be given relevant details of such endorsements: product, duration, where and how featured)
e.tv reserves the right to refuse permission if the outside job is deemed to potentially disadvantage or damage the production or e.tv brand. This will apply for the duration of their contract.
Requests will be considered within 48 hours turn around on basis that all required information is submitted timeously.
Thispolicy will be subjected to a review after 12 months.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further questions.
Your sincerely
MONDE TWALA
