PROJECT GRADUATION

Dear Senior Parents and Guardians,

It’s finally here…Senior Year!! Our children still have another 10 months of classes, planning for their future, and fulfilling graduation requirements, but their big day will be here before we know it! The Project Graduation committee is getting ready, too!

The concept of Project Graduation originated in Maine in response to the deaths of 12 teenagers in alcohol-related highway crashes during the 1979 commencement period. Seven of the teens were from a single community. In an effort to prevent such tragedies, the parents organized “Project Graduation,” a chemical-free graduation celebration. The next year saw no fatalities, no alcohol or drug-related injuries, and no arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol. Parsippany Hills HS is proud to continue the tradition of supporting a graduation celebration that is free from the influence of drugs and alcohol.

We are excited to introduce a new venue for Project Graduation this year! After exploring many wonderful options, we have decided to host our event at Branchburg Sports Complex. After the graduation ceremony on June 22, seniors who have registered for the event will return to school around 9:30 pm, where they will check in, board buses and head to Branchburg. They can expect food, fun, laser tag, entertainment and dancing until they again board the buses and return to the school around 5:00 am. We are still in the planning stage, so please expect additional details and definite times in the future.

The expected cost for this spectacular night is still in the planning stages, hopefully there will be generous donations from local businesses that value the safety of our students and happily contribute toward funding the evening. The PHHS Project Graduation committee has several fundraisers planned to help lower the cost as much as possible. However, it might be prudent to start saving now.

Thank you so much for your anticipated support of this wonderful opportunity for the Class of 2017 to celebrate their graduation together. If you would like to get involved, our meetings will follow the monthly PTSA meetings as listed on the school website. The next one is scheduled for October 18 at 6:30 (Project Graduation will follow at 7pm). We hope to see you there!
