INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS
Supplementary Application Packages are to be posted to CSU Wagga Wagga no later than Friday 29 September 2017 (Applications postmarked after this date will NOT be accepted).
1. Who can use this form?
· an Australian or New Zealand citizen
· a permanent resident of Australia
· a holder of an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa.

2. To gain entry to the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology/Bachelor of Veterinary Science, applicants will be ranked on the following selection criteria:
· A high level of academic ability demonstrated through previous studies, especially in the Sciences and Mathematics.
· A demonstrated interest in, and commitment to, rural and / or regional communities, veterinary science and animal production.
· An understanding of the unique ethical and practical issues that confront veterinarians involved with rural and / or regional practice and animal production.
· The capacity to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

3. These selection criteria should be demonstrated through the following three step process:
i. Apply through NSW Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), including Bachelor of Veterinary Biology / Bachelor of Veterinary Science as one of your preferences. This applies to all Australian domestic applicants and international UAC applicants.
ii. Complete the Supplementary Application Form (available from 1st August) and submit with supporting documents to the School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences. Applications must be postmarked before or on Friday 29 September 2017.
iii. If selected, after assessment of your application, attend an interview at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. Interview does not guarantee entry into the course. Interviews are held over four business days commencing the last Thursday in November and include 20 minutes reading time, 20 minutes face to face interview and a 30 minute numeracy exercise. Two hour tours of the campus are also available. Applicants who are invited to attend interview will be required to successfully complete an Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) accredited numeracy assessment as part of the interview process.
Please note: If you have special circumstances and require a preference for day or time during this interview schedule, please specify this requirement on Page 1 of the Supplementary Application Form.
Note for CSU Students:- Current CSU students who WILL NOT complete the course they are enrolled in this year DO NOT apply through UAC.
- CSU students who will complete their degree this year or have completed their degree MUST apply through UAC.
- Current CSU students should make an appointment with the Course Administration Officer, School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences via email before completing the Supplementary Application Form.
CREDITS
Credit eligibility will be considered for a limited number of subjects in the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology / Bachelor of Veterinary Science and will not result in shortening of the degree. Under normal circumstances, credits will be considered for the following subjects only: CHM102 Chemistry for Dental and Veterinary Sciences (prerequisite for VSC226); BCM210 Foundations & Techniques in Biochemistry; ASC273 Animal Nutrition; ASC221 Animal Genetics. Credit eligibility will be conferred by the Subject Coordinator.
It is your responsibility to make enquiries regarding your eligibility to receive Youth Allowance / Centrelink Payments, particularly if you are applying for credits from prior study and/or are 25 years or older at time of application.
GUIDE TO COMPLETING THE SUPPLEMENTARY APPLICATION FORM
The Supplementary Application Form provides information for different types of applicants including: school leavers, gap year students, university students who have not yet completed their studies, people who have either completed or partially completed undergraduate study, current CSU students and postgraduate students.
· It is preferable that the application is completed electronically (please save a copy prior to commencing and use that version), print and then submit with the required documentation. If you choose to handwrite your application please ensure that handwriting is neat and legible in black or blue pen.
· It is important that all documentation that is requested is included at the time of submission. Incomplete applications or subsequent submission of information will not be considered, and you will not be contacted in relation to any information missing from your application.
· All copies of supporting information are to be submitted in flat A4 format.
- School reports/university transcripts as required (including grading key)
- A limit of ONE validation per experience
- Other relevant information – maximum of 5 pages.
· DO NOT send original documents; they will not be returned to you.
· DO NOT secure documentation with staples. Use paperclips or foldback clips only.
· DO NOT place the Supplementary Application Form in a folder, display book or plastic sleeve.
· A sealed, stamped, self addressed envelope must be attached to the front of the application. This will be returned to you EMPTY as proof of receipt of your application.
· A single passport sized photo is required, attached with a paperclip or foldback clip to the front page of the application. Please write your full name on the rear side of this photo.
SECTION 1: Personal Details (Page 1 of 6)
Complete your personal details and contact information. Email will be the method of communication used to contact you throughout the application process. Please ensure the email address you provide is current and will remain so throughout the application process. Please also ensure that our email address () is included in your list of contacts to avoid our communication being sent to your ‘junk mail’.

SECTION 3: Academic Information – You should only complete one part in this section. (Page 3 of 6)
Complete Part A – if you are a current Year 12 student in Australia or completing an Australian Year 12 qualification overseas.
If completing Part A, you will also need to ask your school principal to complete the School Predicted Score Letter (which can be accessed from here). This is to be emailed directly back to CSU’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences by 29 September 2017. This information will be used for the purpose of preliminary assessment.
Complete Part B – if you are not a current Year 12 student but have completed Year 12 or overseas equivalent within the last 7 years and have NOT studied at university.
Complete Part C – if you are studying at Bachelor level degree or higher (excluding Graduate Certificate) at university this year and/or have studied at university within the last 7 years and will have completed a minimum of one year FTE by the end of this year but have NOT completed a degree previously or this year. Ensure that you provide results for the whole of your degree to this point in time.
Complete Part D – if you have gained university qualifications within the last 7 years at Bachelor degree or higher (excluding Graduate Certificate) or will gain university qualifications in the current year.
SECTION 4: Animal Husbandry/Veterinary Experience (Page 4 of 6)
This section is your opportunity to demonstrate your interest in, and commitment to, rural and / or regional communities, veterinary science and animal production. This may include work experience in veterinary practices and other veterinary or animal production enterprises, including family farm where you have gained experience relevant to your interest in the livestock industries and veterinary science. Please note the listed experiences must have been completed within the past 7 years.
Please Note:
· You should complete an entry for each experience you have had. You can list up to 12 experiences.
· You should also attach documents (Validations, statements from employers, certificates etc) to support each experience to the back of the Supplementary Application Form.
· Be sure to include all applicable family farm experiences and validation by the family farm enterprise
· Referees or enterprises cited in this section may be contacted as part of the selection process.
SECTION 5: Issues Facing Animal Industries (Page 5 of 6)
Briefly discuss (in the space provided) one of the selected issues facing Australian Animal Industries, providing arguments for and against such issue. Include references for any materials such as books, journals or websites you have used to research your topic.
SECTION 6: Letter to the Head, School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences, Charles Sturt University (Page 5 of 6)
Write a letter (in the space provided) addressed to the Head of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences. In your letter, discuss why you believe you should be selected to enter the veterinary science program at Charles Sturt University. Include your voluntary involvement in community and cultural activities as well as any leadership experiences you have gained. Do not exceed the space provided.
DISCLOSURE FORM (Page 6 of 6)
Completion of the Disclosure Form is a requirement of graduates who wish to become registered veterinarians in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Africa or the United Kingdom by the Australian Veterinary Board Council Inc. Carefully read this disclosure before completing, signing and returning with your Supplementary Application. Failure to return the Disclosure Form may jeopardise your application.
CHECKLIST - COMPILATION OF APPLICATION

Applied through UAC (with the exception of continuing CSU applicants), listing Bachelor of Veterinary Biology / Bachelor of Veterinary Science as one of your preferences?
Provided a main and secondary email address in Section 1? Email will be the main method CSU’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences will use for communication with you throughout the application process.
Completed the Supplementary Application Form, with full name and student number on each page, and included phone number area codes and postcodes?
Written your full name, including your UAC or CSU Student Number on EACH page of the Supplementary Application Form, including all pages of additional documentation?
Have you compiled the Supplementary Application form in the following order?
1. Your completed Supplementary Application Form (Pages 1 – 6)
2. Copies of your academic information, ie school reports and/or academic transcripts including the grading key.
3. Animal Husbandry/Veterinary experiences supporting documents in order as listed in Section 4 - A limit of ONE validation per experience
4. Other supporting information – limit of a maximum of five pages
Have you saved the completed Supplementary Application form and retained a copy of all supporting documents?

Attached a sealed, stamped, self addressed envelope to the front of your application? The envelope will be returned to you EMPTY as proof of receipt of your application at Charles Sturt University.
Placed the unfolded Supplementary Application Form and supporting documents in an A4 business size envelope? Please ensure you have your return address on the rear of your envelope.
Applications must be postmarked on or before Friday 29 September 2017.
If you are a Year 12 student, have you requested your school principal to complete and send the Predicted Score Letter directly to the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences? Please ensure that this is done before Friday 29 September 2017. Letters received after the holiday break may be too late for processing.
Failure to provide the required documentation as outlined above may jeopardise your application.
