Odd Squad to Kick Off Weinberg Center’s Family Series

FREDERICK, Md., Monday, September 26, 2016 — Providing entertainment for audiences of all ages, the Weinberg Center for the Arts will offer numerous family-friendly events through its celebrated Family Series. Known for their ability to simultaneously entertain and educate younger audiences, a live staging of PBS Kids’® “Odd Squad” is set to kick off the 2016-2017 Family Series on Sunday, October 16 at 2:00pm.

Tickets for seeing Odd Squad live begin at $35 and may be purchased online at WeinbergCenter.org, by calling the Box Office at 301.600.2828, or in person at 20 West Patrick St. Discounts are available for students, children, military, and seniors.

New this season, free children’s books will be distributed prior to select performances courtesy of Wonder Book and Video.

ODD SQUAD – LIVE!

“Odd Squad – LIVE!” follows the extraordinary adventures of two young government agents—Olive and Otto—who use math skills and teamwork to solve unusual cases, ranging from disappearing zeroes to runaway dinosaurs. Designed to help kids ages five to eight build math skills, “Odd Squad” is “Men in Black” for kids, mixed with some “Airplane,” and sprinkled with elements of “Get Smart.” “Odd Squad Live!” is based on the Emmy® Award-winning PBS Kids® series “Odd Squad,” produced by the Fred Rogers Company and Sinking Ship Entertainment.

CIRQUE MECHANICS: PEDAL PUNK

Industrial materials come to life in an interactive, multi-sensory spectacle for the entire family! Combining special effects, acrobatics, puppetry, and more, this stimulating tour de force tells the story of one man’s journey to a parallel universe. Audiences of all ages are sure to be enthralled by the luminous magic of everyday materials.

TUBA CHRISTMAS & WEINBERG WINTERFEST

The popular tuba comrades of Frederick return with a variety of brassy Christmas hits, delighting audiences of all ages for an annual Weinberg Center tradition. “Tuba Christmas” will continue the beloved holiday traditions with “Weinberg Winterfest”— a celebration with a short silent film feature followed by Santa and Mrs. Claus leading the audience in caroling (all accompanied by the mighty Wurlitzer organ). In lieu of admission to both events, a canned food drive will be held to benefit the Community Action Agency of Frederick City.
