This position is responsible for assisting the Head of Faculty to manage academic program delivery in the VET sector, including:
- Management and coordination of delivery of courses; validation and moderation of delivery and assessment;
- Preparation and delivery of workshops, lectures and seminars,
- Consultation and counselling of students on academic pathways and progress.
- Management of Quality Assurance processes (including AQTF) for course development and delivery;
- Supervision of staff and management of staff performance;
- Management of budget programs;
- Attending Faculty, Institute and stakeholder meetings as required;
- Undertaking of professional activities and research relevant to the professional area;
- Promotion of good public relations including liaison between communities and professional organisations.
- Collaborative work with internal and external stakeholders both at a local and national level.
- Advising the Head of Faculty of developments in literacy and numeracy programs, research, projects and grants.
- Detailed statement of duties
1.Responsible to the Head of Faculty for the delivery and maintenance of VET programs associated with literacy, numeracy and life skills at an approved standard (AQTF).
2.Management of departmental operations including leadership, administration, delivery and assessment of courses, and budget and human resource management.
3.Compliance with Batchelor Institute philosophy, policies and Academic Rules.
4.Active participation in critical analysis of educational delivery with staff (validation, moderation and monitoring), student follow-up and the development and revision of curriculum.
5.Participation in staff selection (including the chairing of selection and interview panels), staff orientation and development, and staff quality management processes.
6.Monitor the assessment of student performance, including moderation of grades, and maintenance of Batchelor Institute records of students' academic progression.
7.Maintain close liaison with relevant industry partners including external organisations and agencies.
8.Secure funding opportunities and agreements that will benefit teaching and learning outcomes for Indigenous people as well as strengthen relationships with external organisations and agencies.
9.Maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop strong networks and collegial teams which enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
10.Development and maintenance of appropriate teaching resources for VET courses.
11.Ensure personal and professional development is continued including, participation in research and allied activities relating to the Literacy, Numeracy and Life Skills Program.
12.Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this designation, as directed.
- Essential selection criteria
1.A relevant tertiary qualification with five (5) years of Higher Education preferably at Masters level or higher and / or equivalent qualification and / or substantial experience relevant to the position, and / or professional registration within the Northern Territory.
2.Significant, relevant experience in teaching and program management in the area of literacy, numeracy and life skills, preferably within Indigenous Australian communities and/or organisations.
3.Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA) and or Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (AWPT) for VET sector or Graduate Certificate in Higher Education sector.
4.Demonstrated capacity to work within the social, political and cultural environment of Indigenous Australian communities and organisations of the Northern Territory, and the capacity to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous Australians, including adult students and community members.
5.Demonstrated knowledge of historical and contemporary issues of importance to Indigenous Australians relevant to the discipline field of this position.
6.Demonstrated experience in managing the delivery of VET Programs including ensuring internal and external Quality Assurance processes are met, management of program budgets, relevant administrative responsibilities and HR matters.
7.Demonstrated commitment to undertake professional development in area of expertise and demonstrated capacity to undertake research and development projects.
8.Demonstrated capacity to respond effectively to the learning needs of adult Indigenous Australian students enrolled in the courses associated with this position including the ability to initiate and develop relevant curriculum and learning resources.
9.Demonstrated ability to manage teams effectively and provide leadership, and undertake a range management tasks including management of program budgets and performance management of staff within the Department and Faculty.
10.Demonstrated ability to negotiate with key industry stakeholders and other RTO’s to achieve and improve student outcomes.
11.Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships across discipline areas with internal and external stakeholders to build strong, collegial teams and improve teaching and learning outcomes.
12.Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory in a light aircraft, must possess a Northern Territory C class drivers licence with experience of driving on unformed roads, and must be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation available to the Batchelor Institute staff, including camping out.
13.Demonstrated capacity to use personal computers, electronic communications technology and educational technology.
