The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head or indeed to the Regional CEO so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third party services.

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent, inspirational and dedicated language teaching in a safe and stimulating environment
  • Teach German (Years 8-11) and French (Years 7-9) to pupils in designated timetabled lessons
  • Take responsibility for promoting, coordinating and participating in MFL activities throughout the school year via after-school clubs, enrichment activities, guest-speakers, themed weeks and House competitions
  • Plan lessons and schemes of work both independently and collaboratively with the MFL Department that address the various needs of our individual pupils and as collective, diverse cohorts
  • Contribute to the creation of Departmental development plans, policies, curriculum documents, risk assessments etc. in liaison with the MFLDepartment and the Senior Leadership Team
  • Record and report upon the development, progress and attainment of all pupils and share this information with pupils, parents/guardians and colleagues
  • Report to parents/guardians in a timely, transparent and positive manner via a number of communication methods to include parents’ evenings, information events, written reports, interim grades, one-to-one meetings, telephone conversation, letter and emailDeploy the data from assessment to ensure that individual pupils have targets that challenge and stretch their ability
